Henry VIII met with his Lord Chamberlain William Sandys who owned The Vyne in 1535. This former Tudor palace turned 17th-century family home is set in 1500 acres of gardens, woodland and wetlands. As a major roof project unfolds, a lift-accessible rooftop walkway is scheduled to open in spring. Visitors can dive into the history of the house with an exciting new layout on the ground floor. A once in a lifetime opportunity to see the roof being replaced from above. There is a lift or for the more able 74 steps to the top with a view of the skilled workmen replacing the roof. Very informative volunteers on hand to tell you what's happening and wonderful views of the grounds. Tickets available in half hour slots... More

Go to the Vyne and see the roof being replaced - a once in a lifetime event - should be another +500 years when it needs to be repaired. This is a half day visit and even if you don't like heights this is a real delight. We also walked in the grounds - will take the dog next time.... More

Sadly the option to purchase a "grounds and gardens" ticket has disappeared. As NT members and locals we often pop up to they Vyne with visitors to walk in the grounds for a few hours which was previously ~£5-6 if memory serves. Today our visitor was charged £13 with no mention that this was the optional enhanced "gift aid" price... More

I've visited the Vyne many times and it's always a lovely day out. A really interesting house full of knowledgable volunteers, fantastic walks through the woods and tasty meals in the restaurant. Great for family, friends, or if you just fancy a trip out by yourself.

Plenty to do, particularly if you want to do one of the woodland walks. The rooftop walkway is extraordinarily well done, disabled friendly, and well worth a visit.

The Vine is a must see this year as there is a 5.4 million pound roof replacement, the whole house is raped in a white shroud thousands of tones of scaffolding to cover the house. You can walk around the roof and see whats going on. This is a once in a lifetime to do I recommend you spend an... More

After months of preparation the roof renovation is now underway. There is public access to the roof scaffolding. Queuing is variable as they have to limit the number of visitors at anyone time. We visited on a very busy Easter Sunday and had no delay. When we came down there was a small queue. A Fascinating to see the different... More

This is a National Trust place. Well worth a visit, I've been several times. The Manor House is currently being restored and the roof is off but they have made it into a tourist attraction as you can get up in the walkway and look down into its huge expanse. They will also tell you the detail of the restoration.... More

Beautiful weather for a wonderful afternoon at the Vyne. A difference in the easter hunt this year which was a good twist and saw the kids (12 and 9) race round the grounds to find and mark off the daffodils. Grounds are amazing, flowers are stunning and the entrance fee for occasional visits is reasonable and all for a good... More
