We tried to enjoy a fun weekend with one of my dear friends and help him celebrate his 50th birthday. However, the Ranger kept harassing us every 15 to 20 mins saying we were too loud and bothering the other campers. We asked the other...More

I leave only about 2 miles from the park, but I still enjoy going there to see the ducks and the deer. The deer used to be in a pen, but now they graze freely. People bring their campers and stay there and it is...More

Beautiful Setting along the river. Campsites are in need of attention. Sadly the park closed over half the sites. Limited number of the rest are full hook up. There is a dump station near, restroom and showers were clean.

If you want to walk and picnic on the banks of a river this is the spot. Lots of trails and roads to bike and hike. Scenery is rustic with swampy areas and a lazy river too. Not on the beaten path but now far...More

I would rank this higher as it really is a pretty park, but the lack of trail maps made us get a little lost. Otherwise, it has several nice and easy hikes.

What a great place to camp, hike or just enjoy being in the outdoors. Went for a hike (actually it was more like a walk) with my son and daughter-in-law.

I would not recommend this park for RV camping. The sites were very close together and had lots of trees making it doesn't difficult to park. Some sites were so tight you couldn't even open the slide out on the camper. The map was poor...More

Cost posted as $25 plus, actual cost was almost $40.00 for very poor camping conditions. A real ripoff for a camping spot for one night.

The park has the potential to be a beautiful spot but a lot of it is closed due to the flooding. The biggest issue is the disconnect between the park and the reservation folks. Worst I've ever seen

My first Boy Scout hike in 1960. Five miler. Fascinated with this park. Couple years later, entire family "camped" in the very first cabins that were built at the park. A few years later, brought my steady girlfriend out to the park. Married her, and...More

The park is very nice. There are places to park camping trailers, they have cabins to rent, there is a boat launch, and a bridge over a pond. The deer are free in the park and you can feed them. They are no longer in a... More

Sam Houston state park offers great trail walking and really good biking trails. Lake Charles (about 15 min away from the park) has great food, if you go downtown you can find good restaurants and drinks. A couple of places... More
