You can absorb the fascinating exhibits in the visitors center then hike to various spots to see additional panels and exhibits, including the cliff over what used to be the Mississippi River where battle action took place. It has many trails for hikes so taking lunch or major snack along is recommended since the scenery is peaceful and there is... More

Interesting tour and museum. Surrendered 3 days after Vicksburg fell as there was no point in defending one spot on the river. Their stand and surrender saved the plantation homes and towns in the area from plunder. There is a Union Naval officer was buried in a St. Francisville cemetery under a truce granted by the rebel defenders. This show... More

Port Hudson is the site of the largest siege in US military history, and today the site features Civil War battlefields, hiking trails through the woods, and a small but nice museum. The trails here are the closest hiking trails to Baton Rouge (worth going to) that you can find. I recommend starting out on the trails, working up a... More

This was our second attempt to see this site, the first was aborted since there was a school track meet. The park is a great "walking" park through nature. The historic sites are between .2 to .5 miles from the road. The museum is small but packed with military memorabilia and the dioramas are well presented. They do have an... More

We spent a half day here, enjoyable. Nice grounds, several walking trails, wonderful main building with several great Civil War artifacts/history. Suggest going during cooler weather as hot day (106 heat index) hikes aren't the best.

We were delayed in finding this attraction because we googled Port Hudson. We discovered that the Port Hudson destination will not get you to the visitors center and battlefields. We wasted an hour winding around narrow roads following signs leading to Port Hudson, not aware that the historic site had to be reached by another route. The well maintained visitors... More

This is a beautiful park to visit, especially if you like Civil War Battle sites and hiking. Nice, free museum to see real artifacts from the war. The 1 mile hiking trail to the battle area was well-maintained and cool in the shade. The park was very well kept and the staff were knowledgeable about the history and were interesting... More

If you enjoy nature and history, then this is the place to go. Some of the most impressive preserved earth works from the civil war surrounded by beautiful nature! the trails are nice and well marked. The museum is sobering.
