About
If you’re interested in seeing parts of Vietnam that are off the main road, and experience adventure, Vietnamese culture, and historic tales told by an epic tour guide, then check out adventure cycling with Pvt. Shi. Private Shi - a nickname of Shi, a local guy whose passion is cycling, would love to show you this area through one of his guided bicycle tours. Adventure cycling includes crossing peanut fields by bicycle, visiting the house of Ho Khanh who found the world’s largest cave, and cycling the historical Ho Chi Minh trail. You’ll have the chance to learn how rice is grown, and if it’s harvesting time, you may even have the chance to help out local farmers in farming rice. Or you might want to choose a tour which visits a local rice wine shop where you can learn how to make rice wine! Most tours in Phong Nha route through Bong Lai, a countryside valley famous for its farm-to-table experiences and incredible fresh food. Pvt. Shi arranges shorter tours in and around Phong Nha, as well as longer tours such as cycling Phong Nha to Hue via the DMZ. His bikes are well-maintained classic mountain bikes (with helmets provided of course); child bikes are available upon request. These excursions encompass everything a tour needs - storytelling, history, and a heaping dose of adventure. You are encouraged to complete a stage of 20 km up to 70 km cycling a day to voyage through the Cave Kingdom! The cycling adventures are wonderful for ones who love to dive into the beauty of Vietnamese culture, eat great food, swim in pristine waters, and see what lies off the beaten path!

We had a great day out with Pvt Shi. I would recommend this trip as a great way to see the back country around Phong Nha. The stops vary from trip to trip but are frequent and informative. It's more about the people than the mountain biking. Don't expect the latest high end bikes, but they are good enough for the trails which are a mix of concrete roads and earth(mud?) tracks.

Thsnk you Shi for a fantastic day cycling. Despite the pouring rain we had a great time. Seeing the local villages, cycling across fields and meeting a local war veteran and his wife. The chicken at lunch was amazing and it was great to sample local food.
Your knowledge and clear passion to help others understand Vietnamese culture made this a unique and memorable trip. We highly recommend others to book when you come to phong Nha, made what could have been a miserable wet day one we will remember forever as a family!

Our cycling excursion wasn't just a nice day exploring the area, it has been a real complete experience of Phong Nha natural park. Shi explained us so many things about history, botanic, food and culture of the park and more generally about Vietnam. I highly recommend a day like this if you wish to visit that aerea of the country.

The cycling trip was a highlight of our trip in Phong Nha. Lee was our guide and took us on a beautiful ride through the country side with an informative tour about local agriculture, the war, and local culture. Lee was friendly, personable, and professional. We biked about 30km in 6-7 hrs stoping at many local villages. It was such a great and unique experience.

I organised a 4 day bike ride for myself and 9 friends from Phong Nha through to Hoi An. When I say organised, I basically emailed Shi and he did the rest. We rode over 300km's through some of the most majestic countryside Vietnam has to offer. We are semi serious weekend riders and there were some nerves about the bikes supplied, but from the beginning, everything was great. The bikes were first class, with a bike mechanic there at your beg and call. It was very hot but we were never left short when it came to water and sports drinks. The food was fantastic and the hotels we stayed at were perfect and exactly what we were after. I never felt pressured at any point along the ride (with the exception of the Hai Van pass which is awesome to ride but hard work). The ride itself was a great mix of challenges and beautiful scenery. Shi and the entire team were just amazing and I can honestly say, this is one of the best things I have ever done.

What an amazing day this was cycling in Phong Nha. The three main reasons for this were:
1) The scenery: an absolutely awesome landscape for a day’s cycling… I can not recommend seeing this place in person enough – photos can’t do it justice. It would be a crime to visit Vietnam and not cycle along the Ho Chi Minh trail and into Phong Nha-Ke Bang National park.
2) The people: everywhere we cycled we received the warmest of welcomes… one of the friendliest places I have encountered in the world… a real pleasure :)
3) Shi: (last but not least!)… what an absolute legend! He seemed to know everyone in the area and gave us an amazing insight into ‘real’ Vietnam, far from the tourist track. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and the history of the area as well as very friendly and a joy to spend a day with (in fact we all wished we could’ve spent much more than a day!)
Shi is able to arrange transfers from the train station to where the cycling starts and also provides water throughout the day and lunch (a delicious freshly cooked lunch eaten by a river with pools which you can swim in for much needed cool off), the bikes are also great quality and so literally everything is taken care of and there’s nothing to worry about other than enjoying the tour (which it is impossible not to do!)
Thank You Shi – you have new friends in the UK who’d always be happy to see you here and we hope to be back in Phong Nha at some point in our lives!

Myself and a buddy went on a two day mountain bike tour in Phong Nha, with our guide, Huy. What an awesome experience riding through nature, local villages, hanging out with locals in said villages, stopping for food at local farms, stopping for Vietnamese coffee at awesome local and rural spots, and riding the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The owner of the company, Shi, was incredible at organizing everything for myself and my buddy last minute (I was able to easily arrange things via Facebook Messenger). He even provided very valuable accommodation tips. If you are in the Phong Nha area, hiring this company for a mountain bike tour is a must!

Dear John,
It took a while to send our thanks regarding to your kind review.
Cycling on the original Hochiminh trails is always awesome, even to us and the people we meet en route too. Everytime, there will be new story told.
Thank you again for coming to our marvellous Phong Nha and enjoying the adventures. Hope that you get more information about the Hochiminh trails than C.I.A as said!
We do wish to see you again in the future, for more amazing rides!
Stay adventurous,
Pvt. Shi

We spent half a day cycling around the back roads of Phonga Nga with our tour guide, Ngoc, which was organised as part of.a wider itinerary put together very thoughtfully by Shi from Oriental Sky travel. Apart from a small section on the main roads we were on back country residential roads and rural tracks. Even though it was very hot, we all enjoyed the trip as the bikes were good quality and we had plenty of breaks. The people we met were extremely friendly and we particularly enjoyed our farm visit and lunch at the farm restaurant. We would love to do a more adventurous biking trip with Shi on our next visit

Thank you again for the visit of your family to our Vietnam. We're so proud of you as Ngoc updated how you guys survived the heat of Phong Nha that day. It's tough ^6.
We hope to do more adventures with your family soon. And we need to have more talks about Vietnam with your handsome sons.
Stay tuned.
Yours,

Breathtaking landscapes and historical places, well organized, great bikes, good food & accomodation and fantastic support team. Unforgettable!! Thanks Shi!!

Hi Shi
I read a bit about the ho chi min trail ride you do. Me and my son would love to do some cycling. Could you tell me where you are in phong nha and what the day trip along the ho chi min trail entails?
Distance, price, difficulty? Me(mammy) am reasonably fit cyclist, son 25 pretty fit.
??
Kind regards Rinske

Hi Mads,
Thanks for your interest in our service.
However, we have not run the bike rental yet as the routes for offroad mountainbiking need a local guide to venture through (as they’re not listed by Google Map yet).
Cheers,
Pvt. Shi
