A Special Experience!
Tu Lan One Day Caving Trip
We did a one day hiking and caving tour including swimming through a cave with lunch provided.
We loved this tour for many reasons. Firstly, our guide, Loc, was just brilliant. He is pasionate, knowledgeable, funny, charismatic and professional. We always felt in safe hands with him and his team. They catered to all levels of ability in our group of 11 and made sure everyone was comfortable, looked after and safe.
Secondly, it’s a special day out seeing the natural beauty of the area with confident local people. Swimming through the cave was something we have never done before but a highlight and something we would do again in a heartbeat! We loved it! Lunch in the valley clearing after swimming though the cave was really very lovely and we were able to go for a swim in the swimming hole after lunch.
Thirdly, it supports the local community. Oxalis is very socially and economically committed to empowering the local people. They have a great business ethos you can read about on their website.
We really enjoyed our day and the people we spent it with. It was a special experience and we very much highly recommend Oxalis.

This year I am 71 years old, this is also a challenge to see if I can complete the 2 day 1 night trip to Hang Va. We were fortunate to have tour guide Annetta and all the staff who served us very dedicatedly. Always cheerful, encouraging, sincere and kind and helpful. All routes are carefully guided, the instructions are dedicated, the cuisine is very high quality and delicious.
From the first day of entering Hang Nuoc Nut and downstream of Hang Va we have been. admiring the marvels of nature. It was not until the second day upstream of Hang Va that I was truly overwhelmed. Each cliff, each stalactite, and soaring dome is filled with images that cannot be fully described.
Oxalis is very reliable, well organized, attentive to safety, well trained staff, we will continue with Oxalis for the next trips.
We trust and recommend Oxalis. We just want to remind you when you choose to go with Oxalis. You should follow the instructions of staff as they have been trained and experienced in dealing with situations and protecting your safety.
Thank you Oxalis and see you next time.

I went with my brother, husband, and a couple of friends. With the guidance of tour guide Ho Trong Dai, we had a wonderful 2 days and 1 night experience together, exploring the wonders of nature in Va cave, drinking tea watching the moon at the camp, Live slowly in the peaceful feeling of dawn, birds singing. Oxalis' services including people, safety, food quality... also contributed to giving our family an unforgettable feeling about this move.

Oxalis were so professional and we had such a great adventure with them! We did the HT1 (Hang Tien 1 day) and were initially quite nervous because the application form expected a lot from you in terms of fitness levels. However, although the day was definitely quite tiring and required you to be fairly fit and able to scramble over rocks etc, it was really doable. Our tour guide, Dieu was so friendly and we really enjoyed chatting to him about his life and training to be a tour guide. Everyone spoke so highly of Oxalis and the local job opportunities that have been created by the company. Our driver was so careful and we were so comfortable with his driving through the winding mountain roads to get to the starting point. The walk through the jungle was awesome and the cave couldn’t be described in words - it was incredible and Dieu explained about the formation and history of the cave really well. Our safety assistant Toan was brilliant and made us feel so supported as he guided us across the slippery rocks. There was a lot of climbing and scrambling over rocks to get into the cave. Lunch was laid out for us at the mouth of the cave and was so impressive! We loved the whole day and are so glad that we went ahead with this experience.

I heard nothing but praises about this company; I chose them for the quality of their service. Unfortunately, I was not given the opportunity to evaluate their professionalism. My story is this: since I prefer personal meetings, I contacted the address directly, but late in the evening, around half past seven, in the hope of going to the track in the morning if there were free places. Personal reservation was denied, you had to sign up using the link, fill out a form (by the way, the form looks like there is a strict selection process for astronauts); When parked, due to the late hour, I filled out the electronic form without looking (oh, who would know that they are treated completely differently than, for example, at the airport..), received a reservation number and quickly ran back to pay in cash. Oddly enough, they did not demand payment on the site; I told the girl at the reception that I would come to them myself in the morning at 7 o’clock and calmed down. While getting ready in the morning, I discovered missed calls, but this did not alert me (alas!). As a result, in the morning the guide and the group left without me, saying goodbye that everything was fine (!!), that my reservation was simply not confirmed!! The management called offered a solution: the same tour option the next day with completing (repeating) the quest again or a refund. A terrible disappointment. Question: what did I choose? The answer is obvious. And, yes, I highly recommend the company “jungle boss” - everything is great, super loyal guys

Dear Ms. Дубова,
I am writing to sincerely apologize for the frustration and disappointment you experienced during your recent booking attempt with Oxalis Adventure. We deeply value your interest in our company, and your feedback is incredibly important to us.
I understand that you filled out an e-booking form and followed up by visiting our office. We appreciate your efforts, but unfortunately, some key issues prevented us from confirming your participation in the 1-day trip.
Firstly, while your booking form was submitted, it was mostly blank. This made it difficult for our adventure consultant to reach you and complete the essential safety questionnaires, which are crucial for ensuring the well-being of all participants on our tours. We tried contacting you multiple times on the night before the tour, but unfortunately, we were unable to connect.
Secondly, upon your arrival at our office, we discovered a potential language barrier. As our tours are conducted primarily in English, we were concerned that you might not fully understand the safety instructions or enjoy the experience to the fullest if you only speak Russian. We prioritize both safety and enjoyment for our guests, and felt it wouldn't be optimal for you to join the tour without a clear understanding of the trip's details and instructions.
To address concerns like this in the future, we're working with our hotel reception to ensure that bookings are not processed and payments are not accepted until confirmed by our adventure consultant. This will allow us to complete the necessary paperwork and address any potential issues before the tour commences.
We understand that this situation was inconvenient for you, and we sincerely apologize for any frustration or disappointment it caused. We value your feedback and are taking it seriously to improve our communication and booking processes.
If you have any further concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. We are committed to learning from this experience and ensuring that future guests have a seamless and enjoyable booking experience with Oxalis Adventure.
Thank you for your understanding.
Warm regards,
Duc Nguyen - Oxalis Adventure Sales Director

I had an amazing adventure with Oxalis Adventure - Tu Lan 03 packed with thrilling activities and breathtaking scenery.
The tour included walking through valley, crossing rivers, swimming through dark caves, and kayaking in stunning surroundings. Our guide was knowledgeable about the local ecosystem, pointing out trees, fruits, flowers, and even rare white fish in the caves.
A highlight was our guide's beautiful narration of "A Gosh" poem during the trip - Mr Phi/safety assistant Mr Hiểu. The journey culminated at Tu Lan Lodge with a stunning view and a delicious meal with local family and their traditional wine. Cycling around the village offered unforgettable sunrises and sunsets over green fields.
The next day, driving ATVs through the ironwood forest was an exhilarating challenge.
Overall, Oxalis Adventure provided a memorable experience with professional guides and diverse activities. Highly recommended for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts alike!

What an amazing experience! The entire Oxalis team was professional, kind, and friendly. Our guide, Hung, spoke good English, was well-versed in the geology of the caves, and incredibly curious to learn more whenever he could. He was particularly interested in apps that we had to help us identify plants and animals. He was also quite the comedian and a bit of a magician. He took a group of 12 people most of whom had never met and turned us into one big, laughing, loving family over the course of two days. the trekking itself was challenging. The trails are extremely rough and rocky through the jungle and as it was raining on our trekking day things were quite slippery. It’s more of a scramble than a hike. All of the safety team were attentive and made sure that we had all the support that we needed to get through safely. The food they provided in these remote locations was fantastic! Our group was quite unusual and that we had six people over 60 and we all did just fine. If you’re fit and adventurous, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

If I could give more stars then I would, the trip was perfect from start to finish. A huge thanks to our guides Seven and assistant guides and porters. We would have loved to do a overnight expedition but maybe next time when the kids are older.
I recommend Oxalis as your perfect choice in Phong Nha, there are many companies to choose from but these guys have been doing it for over 13 years and the experience shows. They also put back some of their profits to help the local community and environment.
The team are top professionals very aware of the needs of the clients and above all the security and safety on he trip was top notch.
Food was great also :)
Thanks to the Oxalis team

We did the Tu Lan Cave Experience (TL1) and it was incredible!
We were picked up from our hotel and met our wonderful guide Hung.
We started the day by trekking through fields for about 30 - 40 minutes before we started exploring cave 1 - Rat Cave. It was gorgeous but we spent most of the time looking down at our feet because the mud inside is very slippery. I don't recommend wearing white running shoes - they will permanently turn brown (you can borrow shoes from Oxalis).
Next we hiked through the jungle and up over a hill to our next cave.
They give you the option to either swim through this cave or take a canoe to the lunch spot. We took the canoe to be dry for lunch.
The location for lunch is unbelievably beautiful! It looks like AI created this to resemble paradise!! I was blown away. Lunch was delicious! BBQ pork spring rolls and banh mi.
Next we swam through another cave (joined to the previous one) and it was magical! This was my favourite caving part of the trip. The water was a great temperature and the cave was incredible.
We finished the day by hiking back through the jungle the way we came in.
I wore long sleeve exercise shirts and sports leggings and it was great.
Hung was an incredible guide. So supportive and funny. We loved having him as our guide.

My wife and I signed up for the 3D2N Tu Lan Cave Encounter in late April, and the day before the trip, I was feeling a bit uncertain about the physical stamina required especially given the sweltering weather (feeling like 41C) and my age (60s). Oxalis, however, took every precaution factoring in the hot weather to ensure that we were well taken care of. The hike up the hills was manageable and the safety crew was on hand to help us up/down the more challenging parts. Tha, the team leader, was amazing- personable with a great sense of humor and exuded positive energy. We were surprised at every turn with the delicious meals and accommodations. I don't think I can put into words my experience once inside the caves and it will be something that I will always remember. We also loved meeting the people on our team. The overnight homestay in the village was also a highlight, as the accommodation and dinner went beyond expectations. I appreciated learning how our support of Oxalis directly positively impacts the community. The only part that we could have taken a pass on was the ATV tour. Overall, if you are interested in creating lifelong memories, an experience that you will not soon forget, this is for you.

Thank you for your question, we are so delighted to know you're planning for your adventure ahead. Hi there, Can I ask what you did with luggage when on this trip? Did you have suitcases or packs?
Written 12 February 2020
Hi Donna,
Thank you for reaching out to us and we are excited to know that you're interested in going on an adventure with us!
Regarding the luggage, we do offer free storage at our offices in Phong Nha and Tan Hoa. You leave your suitcases or luggage that you do not need for the tour there, our staff will put them in the storage with name tags. You will get them back after the tour ends.
For luggage that you need to use on the tour, we do offer each person a big water-proof recycle plastic bag to pack up things you just need to use once arriving at the campsite (ex: clothes to change, flipflops, books, etc). Our porters will carry these to the campsites where you will get them back, so you don't have to carry heavy stuff all the way.
Oxalis will provide a helmet, a water bottle, gloves, a semi-dry backpack so that you can put things that you need to use on the way such as sunglasses, insect repellent spray, medicines, etc. You will carry these for the whole journey.
If you need further information and support, please feel free to leave us a message here, or email us.
Our adventure consultant team will help you plan out the trip at best!
We can't wait to see you!
Regards,
Oxalis Adventure team

Hi, I don’t work for oxalis, but I asked about the costs when I was there caving. I think they said it’s $’000s per person. Don’t know how long but only a certain number are allowed in per year so you need to book in advance.

Hello,
Me and a friend want to take a 2D1N tour in June this year. We want ourselves to be challenged (we are fit) and go deep in the jungle and see the most beatifull cave. What do you recommend? The Hang en one seems good because we sleep in a cave. The Tu Lan seems to be les exciting or less amazing. Is this true?
Written 16 May 2019
Dear our valued adventurers,
While Hang En definitely gives you wow factors with its enormous size and stunning view, Tu Lan Caves are a perfect combination of trekking, caving and swimming inside river caves. We would say you do not want to miss either of the experiences due to its differences in activities. However, if you want to challenge your physical fitness, Hang En could take a bit more fitness endurance of around 10 km trek per day.
You can visit Oxalis Website and have a live chat with our travel consultants. They are local people with insight information for your best plan for cave tours and Phong Nha travel in overall.
Please keep in touch and reach us for any further assistance. We cannot wait to greet you both into the Cave Kingdom of Vietnam in Phong Nha.
Yours in adventures,
Oxalis Adventure Team

I read about this from the comment of ‘greeneyedgrl1’ on April 28 2019 in TripAdvisor Son Doong Cave section, so I just want to clarify for me as a non-smoker before making decision.

Dear Tan,
Thank you for leaving Oxalis Adventure a question on TripAdvisor. Regarding to your concerns, we would like to once again confirm that, we have banned smoking in all of our tours for all of Oxalis staffs since November 2018. There will be noone from Oxalis team to smoke inside the cave, jungles, resting area or any places, any time during the tour.
We have also checked again on the comment of 'greeneyedgrl1' and it was an old review from April, 2018 for your information.
You can totally count on us and enjoy your wonderful time without any toxic smells from smokers.

Wanted to ask you a little more about the one day tu lan experience. We are in our 60's but are fit and hike in California-- just wondering what shoes you wore and how slippery and difficult it is-- thanks.

just back from 2 days at hang va. no matter what shoes you wear you will slip and slide. the jungle is wet and therefore muddy and the rocks are also wet and slippery. the sand sticks to the botton of your shoes and eliminates any purchase you might have. the trip was wonderful but strenuous.

So excited for our Hang En overnight tour next month, however, we are traveling very light and will not be bringing our own hiking shoes. Are the shoes provided adequate? Any advice for making them more comfortable?

Dear our valued adventurer,
Thank you very much for booking Hang En Adventure tour with us and we really look forward to seeing you next month. Regarding your concern, we would like to answer as below:
Trekking shoes are very important for all the activities on the tour. Good-gripping trekking shoes and non-water proofed are highly recommended because they will get wet soon and become heavier during river crossings; but we do offer and lend you our basic army jungle boots with varied size from 36 - 46. If you plan to use our boots, please bring some pairs of trekking socks/ densely-weaved socks and shoe insoles to use with them to avoid blisters.
We hope this help you prepare better for the up-coming adventure with us. If you need further information, please feel free to drop us a question here. See you soon in Phong Nha!
Kindest,

Hello.
We're looking to book for early January 2019. Do you offer a locker for our luggage before embarking on the tour?
Thanks!

Do I really have to pre-book the cave tour a year before my planned trip as some have advised?
Written 7 August 2018
Dear YaserKKK,
Thank you for your interest in joining adventure tours with Oxalis. Regarding your concern, please be advised that it depends on which tour you are interested in.
Most of our tours depart weekly from mid-November to mid-September every year. Some of them opens for tourism activities from February to August (closed in other months in rainy season for safety reasons).
In addition, the number of spots on each tour is limited. Therefore, you would want to book your favorite tour as soon as possible to secure your spots and to best prepare for the trip in advance.
If you have already got a travel time in your mind, please feel free to drop your request at our email, our adventure consultant team will help you in planning and booking.
If you need any further question, please don’t hesitate to let us know. The team looks forward to seeing you soon in Phong Nha!
Best regards,
