This was a beautiful home and gardens with lots of photo opportunities so don't forget your camera. We all enjoyed the tour of the mansion. Our guide had a lot of information and was very knowledgeable. We liked that we were able to enter the rooms and get a close up of all the furniture and decorations. The highlight of... More

Absolutely beautiful property! Took my teenage daughters for the tour. Very nice tour guide and very informative but lacked keeping my teenagers involved. They were at least expecting a haunted story. Great for history of mansion, poor for wanting to hear about anything paranormal about what has happened in that house. My daughters saw in tv it's haunted by a... More

This trip via Old South Tours was one of the favourite parts of our recent stay in New Orleans. Keith our driver was gentile. The trip was well organized as we received a day before call about a pick up change due to Mardi Gras. The house tour was excellent. The garden self tour beautiful and the buffet at their... More

I live in Loisiana and have visited most of the plantations in this area. By far this was one of the best. The Plantation was beautiful but the best was the gardens. Loved it!

We visited many plantations from Natchez to New Orleans...we were especially looking for places that do not skirt over slavery...visit Oak Alley, Destrehan and especially Evergreen and Whitney for excellent exhibits on slavery. Evergreen is the most intact with 22 in situ slave cabins...so Houmas concentrates on the romanticized view of the old south, which normally I don't like BUT...they... More

We visited the plantation and found it very informative!! Quite fascinating that the house was originally built in the 1700's. There are several original articles. The tour guide was excellent and did a wonderful job of explaining the way of life at the time the house was built and years later.

I spent a fun morning at this wonderful home. The current owner still lives in there, but departs in the morning before visitors arrive. His friendly dogs greet you instead. Beautiful gardens and walking trails. Helpful staff, particularly Head Gardener who stopped and talked about the various plants and flowers. So much historical information inside this house, particularly when used... More

One of the best! Definitely include this on your list. In fact, if you are only going to choose one, make it this one. Wonderful character in period clothing guide you through the plantation as if you were there in the 1800s. Great gift shop, wonderful restaurants, overnight accommodations &stop in "The Turtle Bar" for a real cocktail (Mint Julip... More

My wife and I were on a river cruise that stopped at the Houmas House per our itinerary. Our guide was very well versed in the history of the plantation as well as quite entertaining. The individual that purchased the property several years ago has did a remarkable job of restoring the grand old estate back to her original glory.... More
