Drive along Rookery Road (gravel washboard so go slow) and enjoy all the birds roosting in the trees. Then get out on the lake/swamp and take an eco-tour to explore the beauty of this special place.

What a great way to spend a day in Lafayette!! I went for a hour kayak on the lake. Saw turtles, alligators and birds that were very beautiful. It's so peaceful

Lake Martin is without a doubt the place to take pictures. This area is untouched and nothing has been cut down. There are full grown trees, bird roost and even a boardwalk that extends out into the lake. In warmer weather you will see alligators....More

I rented a kayak and paddled for an hour through the cypress swamps. A fair number of birds and a few turtles, but I did not see any gators. Most likely because it was a pretty cool day.

We didn't see any when we were there. You might call champagne swamp tours and ask them.
