Interesting if you like older homes

This is a very old home (mansion). It was replaced many years ago, but you can still go in and see a glimpse of history.

For a governor's mansion, it was definitely different than others we toured. I guess I liked seeing that this was a mansion that was truly for the family, not to impress. Each of the rooms was dedicated to a different "first family" which also made it interesting. You can see their personalities and the furnishings fit their time.

The mansion was getting ready for their annual fund raising gala so they were not giving tours. I was so disappointed and when it was obvious how disappointed I was,Natalie asked me if I was from out of state. When I said I was she took the time out of her busy schedule to take me a tour by myself.... More

I had a great tour of this charming old home. The furnishings are almost all original and the place screams of a more formal and less cluttered style. There are secret doors which lead to the upstairs and I especially enjoyed seeing the western collection of things in the room of "You Are My Sunshine" singer, Governor Jimmy Davis. The mansion... A beautiful home full of Louisiana former governors' treasures. The lady docent here was awesome. She made the history come alive. We are from out-of-state, but still found it fascinating. Well worth the stop if you are interested in the type mansion architecture or the history, either one or both.

Take the State Capitol tour and skip this one. The Capitol tour is free, much moe interesting, and covers much more. I guess if I did this and not the Capitol, then this might have been ok.

I've been lucky enough to attend a couple of events here. The building is beautiful and really neat to see if you have the opportunity.

If you are a Louisiana history buff this is a great place to learn about how our state got it's start. Now that it is a social event venue it's loss some of it's cache. However, if you have never visited the White House, it is a must-do! Gov. Huey Long built it as an exact replica of the White... More
