2/13/2017 Note! Big South Fork Scenic Railway is under new ownership and management. Brand new website will be posted 2/20/2017 with complete 2017 schedule. We are not operating January, February and March. Excursions will resume April 1st. The K&T Special, our signature excursion, is a gorgeous three-hour scenic train ride from Stearns, Kentucky to the National Park Service's wonderfully restored Blue Heron Mining Community. In 2017 e'll also offer a variety of special event trains during the year, such as the Moon-shine Limited and South Fork Santa Express. This season we are spending nearly a million dollars on refurbishing cars and engines, and upgrades to the Depot and the railway. Stay tuned! -Diana Bybee and Sam Carpenter

Friendly staff, the seats were very comfortable, the scenery was gorgeous. If you go sit on the left side of the train so you can enjoy the view. The only downside to our trip was the rain. I would recommend taking the trip.

$75.75 for 3 people. They took the train through some parts of the woods. Some cars had windows and some didn't. I know that the window cars filled up first this time of year and the other people were upset because of this. They take...More

On a whim, we the Big South Fork Scenic Railway the other day and were happy to see numerous improvements recently made. The ride itself is unchanged--still as fabulous as ever--with its stunning rugged wilderness and compelling history narration of the old lumbering and mining...More

We were really looking forward to this ride and loved the fact it was something we could bring our little dog on! However, sadly, it was pretty disappointing. First, it was very loud. Someone really needs to oil the parts because the whole ride things...More

Enjoyed the train ride. Sat in comfortable seats in middle car on the way to Blue Herron. They did not flip seats for the ride back, so we switched cars. Seats not as comfortable and less air flow. Disappointed with mining camp. Would have been...More
