Birthplace of Loretta Lynn. When Loretta Lynn belted, "Well, I was...

Birthplace of Loretta Lynn. When Loretta Lynn belted, "Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter/In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Hollow," it not only skyrockted "The Queen of Country Music" to additional fame outside the realm of country music fans, but it merited her the everlasting respect of every person connected directly or indirectly with coal mining or mountain life. Visit Butcher Hollow, located in scenic Johnson County. Loretta's brother, Herman Webb, is curator of the Butcher Hollow Home.

Stop at Webb's store and someone will try to accommodate a tour of the house which is about a mile from the old store. $5.00 per person. It was a great Sunday road trip and worth it. The gentlemen giving the tour was very informative and all around very nice. He is great at giving the history even though he... More

We went there recently, the road in is narrow and winding so be prepared, we were in a really small car and met a full size truck and I did not think we were going to make it as we were on the downhill side. The cabin is small 4 rooms house with a lot of family pictures and still... More

You have to follow the very detailed instructions to get to Butcher Hollow. And even then it's treacherous. You have to stop at a general store to pay admission and get let in about another mile up the road. Trouble is the store is closed. Some locals are sitting on the porch and they tell us where to "go": head... More

This was an awesome trip. I love Loretta ans seeing where she grew up was amazing. Her brother Herman who gives the tour is just a sweetheart!! Lots of pictures and items from their childhood to see and Herman has plenty of stories to tell !!

As a native eastern Kentuckian, Loretta Lynn is a part of my personal and cultural history. The cabin itself is not so much different from my birthplace, and that of many others I know who were born in a coal mining and farming community. When "Coal Miner's Daughter" was filmed, several of my friends and family served as extras. You... More

Was in Paintsville to visit the Stafford House (my great-grandfather is FM Stafford) and it struck me that I have never been to see Loretta's old home. I had a somewhat good idea where the hollar was, so I headed out on my motorcycle and was pleased to find some signs to lead the way. The signs become a little... More

Lifelong dream come true. I got to walk through the rooms of the Coal Miner's Daughter and meet her brother and a cousin. Great town and experience!

I was worried about driving here after reading the reviews but it was not bad at all. We first went into the Webb's store and bought coffee cups. I asked the clerk if any tours were being given that day and he informed me that Loretta's niece was at Loretta's home and would give a tour. We drove there with... More

This place is way back in a hollar, down an ever narrowing road with several burnt trailers along the way. We didn't get out, as no one was there, so we just peeked from the tiny turnaround. I can't say what it looks like on the inside, the outside is nice. I just don't recommend going anytime other than midday.... More
