The site from Jordan side was left as simple as possible. Not much commercial gimmicks. Guide provided by government was knowledgeable and professional. In hot months, avoid going between hours of 11:00 and 14:00.

To see the area that Jesus is baptized is worth the journey. You can be baptized here as well. Not a lot else to do here. Bring a bottle and save some Jordan water to bring home.

The site is kept very simple, not commercial (contrary to the other bank managed by Israeli authorities). A short trip from Amman city.

The church is open only on certain days and short period. It is closed most of the time. The river is no longer a river, its just a small stagnant water body that stinks and is full of algae. The guides walks you for about...More

The ticket office/entrance where they check your Jordan pass is rather unremarkable. The small buses used to drive tourist to the site are old, no air-con and filled with flies. The most interesting part to us, atheists, were the proximity to Israel. It was literally...More

Yes, there is some distance to walk from the bus stop to the actual baptism site and then to the Jordan river which is about 500m but most of the walk is through a shaded path.

Yes, you can get baptised, but there is no permanent priest there: it is necessary to be organized in advance.
