The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft’s mission is to support and promote excellence in art, craft, applied arts and design. Our goal is to educate and inspire while promoting a better understanding of art and craft through exhibitions, collaborations, outreach and the permanent collection. The Museum annually offers large-scale exhibitions in its three gallery spaces as well as highlights from its permanent collection. KMAC’s exhibitions and programming attract visitors on a daily basis as well as record crowds for special event nights and on monthly trolley hop nights. KMAC’s Sales Gallery store features Kentucky-created work that include ceramics; glass; metal; fiber; wood; jewelry; painting, and folk art. The Sales Gallery is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Kentucky Arts Council’s “Craft Marketer of the Year” in 2009 and 2006, and Finalist in 2008.

I have wanted to visit since the recent remodel. They still are not fully finished. I enjoyed the art but I always wish the attendants would be friendlier. There was no eye contact or welcome smile. I almost felt as if I was inconveniencing them by walking through the gallery.

Love KMAC and all they are doing as a steward of arts and culture in Louisville. They have tons of events that appeal to a wide variety of audiences, so there is literally something for everyone at some point in the year. Check it out!

Yes, this is a donation admittance and you could forego the expense. So yes, technically, it's free. And the space is new and open and many pieces were well displayed. However, I kept thinking that this is called Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft and yet it did not scream anything that was local. Yes, there were some local artists,... More

Very small art museum on Main St. There are 3 floors, but only a few things to see on each floor. The neatest item was a wooden boat on the 3rd floor. A lot of the art was rather bizarre, including a strange video of a girl who had painted her face purple and ate a banana while making weird... More

good - it is located right down town, so if you are visiting anyway, it is worth stopping by. But it also depends what the exhibition is going on at that time. good - free admission, they only ask for small donation ( recommended 5 $) good - there is small space in the back for some activities for children... This small but well planned exhibit space offers thoughtful displays and interesting works of art. The gift shop has a number of local artists' crafts and you can take home the art of Louisville! There is no fee to visit but there is a suggested donation.

Oh, my, how sad. Someone knows this as it was "donation only" admittance because the first and third floor were the only places available. The first floor contained boring posters and the third floor contained some works made by local artists and collected by a local couple. The exhibit, while interesting from a local mindset perspective was boringly presented with... More

Maker space which is designed for kids to create was such a fabulous place to visit. The lady there, Dana, has such an awesome personality and the kids loved her!

We were there about 1 hour on a Sunday afternoon. At the time, there were 2 exhibitions on display. The displays were mostly well marked with informative and interesting explanations of what we were looking at. There was a small room at the back for kids to do hands-on activities. How much you enjoy your visit here will likely depend... More

My little sisters and I got in for free and thank goodness. We went through it twice because we were done within 20 min. Barely any content to the exhibits. The front desk worker was also stuck up and very standoffish which made me uncomfortable. We drove all the way to downtown for a 20 minute exhibit. Thank goodness for... More
