About
Situated 8km from the village of Bredbo, Macenmist Black Truffles & Wines offers you the chance to explore the hidden delights of the Perigord black truffle. Come and join the team at Macenmist where you will be able to experience something exciting and unique. Forsty winter mornings herald the ripening of the underground truffles and visitors are encouraged to rug-up and venture out with the truffle dogs as they hunt for the elusive black gold. When a truffle is found it is extracted from its subterranean home in true archaeological style using small tools and brushes. After the hunt it's back to the truffle shed to warm up while partaking of refreshments and indulging in truffle tasting, lore and mystic. Then if that's not enough... stay for a rustic truffle luncheon OR for those wanting to indulge themselves with more truffle, experience the all day event where the Chef's eclectic and innovative truffle food will tantalise your tastebuds.

Have just spent the most wonderful day at Macenmist. Arrived about 10.30am to friendly greeting by hosts Barbara and Richard, with bottomless tea, coffee and divine Ghluwein made from their harvest. Fabulous farm experience, meet and handfeed the galloway cows, before heading off on a truffle hunt with two amazing truffle dogs doing the hard work, as we learned about truffles and how they are grown and farmed. After finding and digging up a cache, it's back to the farm shed for a loooong, leisurely lunch of between 8-10 courses, depending on whether you count the sorbet. Everything used truffles in clever ways, was just delicious! The format was great, everything cooked in front of us by excellent chef, John, with help from Jackie, Barb and Richard. Wonderful food, prepped using simple kitchen appliances, camp stoves, and a lot of love, care and great conversation. Rolled out the door, full and smug, about 4PM. Foodie Heaven!

Understanding truffles and demystifying this amazing treat is what you will enjoy during a visit to Macenmist.
There is an absence of elitism often associated with the hint of truffle and a down to earth, honest appreciation of this glorious food presented with a passion for the delights of truffle hunting and preparation of food infused with this amazing delight.
I spent a morning exploring the beautiful property encased in an early morning mist in the company of Barbara and Benny and their two lagottos (truffle hunting dogs). It was a hands on experience where I was able to be as involved as I wished in the company of other enthusiastic guests for the day.
I recommend this experience to anyone wishing to expand their culinary knowledge. Having said that, I am not a cook but I am a lover of new experiences. Watching the dogs at work, discovering truffles and then enjoying food prepared with this infused delight was a rare and extraordinary experience which I will delight in regularly.

I have been twice now and look forward to going again. You will be welcomed by Barbara and Richard and their two Lagottos (Italian Truffle Dogs) and they will share their knowledge of the Truffle and how to hunt. You get to actually go into the area where the Truffles are found and if you want you can even help dig one out! After that you are treated to a three course delicious meal and most elements contain Truffle. Everyone I went with thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I highly recommend this day to anyone and everyone as both days I have been were very informative and LOTS of fun. Thanks Barbara and Richard for your hospitality :-)

Perhaps we caught them on a bad day but I was very disappointed with our experience. It was chaotic when we arrived at the appointed time. We were asked to take a seat - the room was very cold. No one really welcomed us or explained the day. We then sat for an hour while another group did their truffle hunt, why not have asked us to arrive an hour later?
The hunt itself was interesting and we enjoyed it.
The lunch was not what we expected for the price ($125 head). There was no menu or explanation of what each course was. There was a cup of pumpkin soup, chicken on cous cous and cold rice pudding with store bought wafers. We were not offered wine or water to drink with the meal, although there was an urn of boiling water and some tea bags. There clearly was not enough staff to look after the number of guests. Overall the meal had more a “boarding school lunch” vibe than a fine dining experience.

I visited Macenmist last year for a truffle hunt and cooking class, and was not disappointed. I've learned how to cook with truffle properly, courtesy of Chef John, and look forward to regularly visiting Barbara and her dogs at Macenmist to purchase more black truffle to enhance my cooking this truffle season. I'd highly recommend this year's cooking inspiration days this year!

This is the second time I have visited. This time I knew what to expect and my experience was much more enhanced with the scent of the truffle. We arrived and were invited to have tea/coffee. Next there was a short film explaining the history of Macenmist, how the truffles are found, cleaned and their uses. We also got to meet the lovely 'truffle' dogs who were absolutely delightful. After the group all had a go getting the truffles, after one of the dogs sniffed it out, we headed back to be shown how to clean weigh and store the truffle. Then it was lunch with each dish infused with truffle. Butter infused with truffle for our bread and also ice cream with truffle. What a fantastic day. Can't wait to go again. Thank you Richard and Barbara and puppies.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Truffle Hunt and lunch. The host Barbara was extremely knowledgeable and we learnt so much about the amazing dogs that find them through to the many uses for the black truffle. The 3 course lunch was superb and there were various products available for purchase at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend this tour.

Spectacular day and awesome food. Great hard working people that run a beautiful farm that delivers a day that was far more interesting than expected.

We visited Macenmist Farm in August while truffles were in season. It is an experience that I would recommend to anyone. We arrived at the farm to be told a bit of the history of why they use dogs to hunt for truffles. Then we were taken on a truffle hunt with one of the dogs. Some of our group had the experience of actually digging the truffle out of the ground. This was followed by a wonderful lunch that had truffles infused in every course and product used.
The owners are very knowledgeable and are willing to share their knowledge. They will soon have a vineyard to accompany the truffle hunting.
Highly recommended.
