Being a Vietnam Veteran myself this place was very special to me. It is a 20 something tall sundial, made of stainless steel. Etched in the floor is the names of Kentucky Veterans that died in Vietnam. So when the sun is out the dial illuminates the names. So cool.

The Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a special memorial that was designed to honor each of the Kentuckians who served and died in the Vietnam War. We have visited several times and each time is an awe-inspiring moment of silence as we honor the lives of our Kentucky Vietnam Veterans. There is plenty of free parking available. Take your time... We decided to check out the Kentucky Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, seeing that I served during that era. I did not know what to expect. This is a fantastic, moving memorial. The architect has placed a large Sun-Dial in the middle of a large plaza. In that plaza, names and dates of the honored fallen are etched into the floor. As... More

As a retired serviceman, I really appreciate this memorial. Designed by a Kentuckian for the fallen Kentuckians. Unique that it is built like a giant sundial where the shadow touches the man's name on the day that he died.

One of the best Vietnam Veterans memorials I have ever seen. It is a bit hard to find but follow your GPS and it will take you there. Best to see on a sunny day so you can see the sun-dial effect. There is paper and pencils to make rubbings of the names of the Kentucky veterans who were killed... More

I made it a point to visit the Vietnam Vet memorial while in Frankfort. The war was of my father's generation and even today has effects on people. The design is simple, yet elegant. The names of Kentuckians who paid the highest cost, losing their lives in service to their country, brought tears to my eyes. Each name is someone... More

I visited this memorial to see a relatives name and made a rubbing of his name with the supplies that are provided. I was there early in the morning and the atmosphere was very somber, sun coming up and you have a wonderful view of the capitol building. This is a unique memorial in that the sundial cast a shadow... More

What an ingenious design, to use an ancient time-keeping device reliant upon nature, the sundial, to honor the fallen Kentucky veterans of the Vietnam War! When my husband and I visited, clouds had temporarily obscured the sun, but then the sun reappeared, and we were able to see for ourselves the power of this deceptively simple memorial. The view of... More

Great place to visit. This is a must see. I was awed and inspired by being here. It should be a place to visit for everyone.
