About
The Kentucky Artisan Distillery opened in 2012, as Oldham County's first distillery since Prohibition. We are a contract distiller and bottler, and are now the home of Jefferson's Bourbons. Guests learn the story behind this incredibly unique brand while touring a craft distillery in an up-close and personal way. Every tour is a behind-the-scenes tour!

An hour we'll worth it to see a small batch Distillary.
Tom (the guide) was very informative and answered questions. The overall process was explained well along with thecontract Distillary process. The tastings provided a better feel for the various nuances of distilling.

    Another Awesome Ky Artisan Visit!
First, Jefferson Reserve Twin Oak is my personal favorite of all bourbons! We love coming to Ky Artisan!! Our tour guide was just terrific! Always love hearing the stories not to mention the tastings at the end!

    Best bourbon tour ever!
We LOVED this tour! Dee, our tour guide, was phenomenal! The history was fascinating and she made the whole experience so much fun. Shelia was terrific too - she greeted us when we got there and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with her. The atmosphere is warm, fun and welcoming. And let’s not forget the bourbon! Simply the best we’ve ever tasted. It’s so good we came to Louisville to tour the distillery for our anniversary! You’ll love it.

Craft distillery tour inclusive of families
Our family of 4 loved seeing a craft distilling operation, and were thankful to find a tour inclusive of our children (10&13). The tour size was small in January and felt more intimate than others, allowing for more question/answer and conversation with the tour guide. Everyone there was welcoming and the product, of course, is excellent. We had a great experience and would recommend it to others!

    Very Informative Tour
During our weekend in Louisville to do a bourbon trail, we hit 3 different distilleries. Kentucky Artisan was the last one. It was our least favorite of the 3, but still a very good tour. However, I think it was the most informative of the 3, due to the great job Wes did. He explained things in the process of making bourbon, that we had not heard on the other tours.

    Worth the visit
Friendly people, quality distiller. They are smaller which means you can get up close and personal with the entire process which we liked. Also are fans of Jefferson bourbon and their story. Best of all our tour guide was excellent, educational, humorous, and great story teller.

    Lovely experience!
Shiela was an excellent tour guide. The information she provided was very interesting and she is a pleasant person to have good conversation with. We have been on several distillery tours and we really enjoyed the small group setting. It was intimate and very relaxed. The bourbon is excellent! We have seen Jeffersons in the stores, but have never tried it. We are so happy we came to visit. Thank you for being a part of the Kentucky Bourbon craft tour. That's how we found you. Highly recommended!

    Great tour and tasting!
Very interesting and informative tour led by Tom. We had a large group of 25 and he was easy to hear and enthusiastically answered our many questions. The tasting was very nice as well, leading us to buy a number of bottles of their Jefferson's bourbon.

Kathy was the best she made the tour interesting. She took her time to get to know us and talked about items that interested our group.

Tips bring a truck so you can bring home a used barrel. The price was great and we spent the rest of our trip trying to figure out how we could possibly fit a barrel in our small suv.

For those that are unaware Yew Dell Botanical Gardens has live music on Thursday nights during the summer, Bourbon and Botanicals. One of the sponsors and present at the event is their next door neighbor, Kentucky Artisan Distillery. Tonight was the night that I decided to try one of their bourbons. Besides the two young women who served as bartenders was an employee that was designated as the bourbon expert. She explained the various products available and helped me in deciding what to try. After all was said and done I had their Whiskey Row on the rocks. I was offered a soda if I didn’t like it. That was unnecessary as I found the bourbon to be quite smooth and refreshing. I didn’t know what to expect as the distillery seems rather small in comparison to a number of other distilleries I have visited over the years. And yes, I have completed the bourbon trail years ago. Obviously, size has nothing to do with quality. For those attending the Bourbon and Botanicals try a bourbon from the folks next door.

Hearing the Jefferson's story turned me around from thinking the Ocean edition was just a gimmick. OK, yea it is but it is undeniably different and yummy. More importantly so is their standard aged variety. Fantastic they are open in 2020.

“Bunghole” Patty was an excellent and fun tour guide! She explained the bourbon distilling process in clear and clever ways never heard before. And, we loved the close-up and personal tour. It allowed us to connect with distillery personnel all along our journey through the distillery. Such clever bourbon crafting going on at KAD!! The bourbon tasting was a bonus!! We left with our delicious stash in hand. 🥃😋

It was such a memorable experience. Patty rolled out the red carpet and redefined hospitality. She made some calls for me to be able to get some of the different limited collection they didn’t have in stock, and to top it off, she arranged for me to meet the owner Trey and have my bottles signed. Those bottles are not getting touched for a long time. Trey was great. Every staff member was awesome and very friendly. Steve did a great job being our tour guide as well. Definitely worth the trip. I am now a much bigger fan than I was before going on the tour. Thank you everyone for such a wonderful experience.

Everyone at the KAD was so welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to have us visiting, particularly in this environment. Not only do you make a world class product of which we are loyal consumers, but it’s clear from our visit that the product is a direct reflection of the people that take pride in being part of the KAD family. Thank you for your hospitality and we hope to get back there under some semblance of “normal” next year!

We hadn’t stopped here in many years but wanted to go if for no other reason than to pay our respects to Steve Thompson who passed away in 2021. Steve participated in a tour we took a long time ago and he has left a legacy of a laid back, friendly place to visit. A casual look around – we were the last people there this particular day – showed it’s still a place that exudes an entirely personal experience.

Since our last visit, they have expanded with a patio and “front porch” where you can hang out a bit. We spent time – and money – in the gift shop which offers a couple expressions not readily available in retail stores.

Kentucky Artisan may look a little remote if you’re staying in downtown Louisville but it’s an easy 20 minute or so drive and depending on your curiosity, there are several ways to get there. Bonus: 3rd Turn Brewery and Beer Garden at Oldham is just down the road, not even a three-minute drive.

Incredible host. The host/guide, Price, was really welcoming and did very well with the COVID restrictions that were set forth. No answer went unanswered and he was very knowledgeable. The bourbon and tasting was awesome. Jefferson is incredible.
Ps. I’m not a bourbon fan, but this was an exception. Thank you Price!

It was an Unplanned stop at KAD yesterday, and so we weren’t surprised they were already fully booked for tours. However the staff was superb, taking time to tell us some of the distillery and bourbon histories, and helping us make Purchase. As lovers of Jefferson Reserve, we will definitely be back to do the tour.

Bob, the tour guide, did a fantastic job. We enjoyed learning about Jefferson’s products. and the other products the make. The Jeffersons Ocean story is very interesting. They have a nice gift shop. It’s not as polished as some of the big distillery tours but it is very personal. My wife and I liked it. I highly recommend the tour if you want a more intimate experience.
