About
The Capitol has been an important part of the cultural fabric of Bowling Green for over 100 years. The first picture show business to operate at this address, the Columbia Theatre, opened in 1911. The Capitol Theatre, managed by the Nashville-based Crescent Amusement Company, replaced the Columbia in 1921. In 1938, the building went through an extensive renovation and expansion. While it closed for a time in the early 1970s, it reopened in 1981 following a $1.3 million renovation and was managed by the Capitol Arts Alliance for 30 years, prior to the building of SKyPAC, which managed the Capitol until 2021. The building has been managed by the Warren County Public Library since 2021. The auditorium is used for library events, including lectures, presentations, and free movies. The space is also rented out to community groups, concert producers and promoters. Off the lobby is a used book store, run by volunteers from the Friends of the Library - Warren County.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an old movie house that a non-profit has taken over. It has programs from time to time. Very limited program subject matter. It's good that they are saving an old movie building.

Capitol Arts and Sky Pac is a nice place to go with a group or a couple. They have some great shows and musicals. The singers we went to see and hear were very talented. It is a little pricey but so is almost everything you do now a days. They have a beautiful new building.

I love to catch a show at the Capitol. I was able to watch the Kentucky Orchestra and Retromadness here during the last several years as well as Webb Wilder and "Webbfest V" in early October this year. I have not found a bad seat in the house and love to watch the shows from the balcony where it is seldom crowded. The people that run the shows always work hard to put on a good show and make a memorable experience. It is a treasure that is (unfortunately) underused in Bowling Green. I highly recommend it (as well as some of the local restaurants) for a romantic night.

I saw a classic Christmas film last night at the theater here. It was a special $2 per ticket showing, and it got a BIG turn-out. Lots of families, and felt like the kind of event that pulls a community together :) Lots of smiles, lots of happy people.

I went to the Capitol to see Lost River Sessions Live and absolutely loved it! The venue has this unique architecture and decor to it that went perfectly with the bluegrass/folk music vibe. The staff was very friendly, the place was clean, and the music was a great way to take a break and get out of the house.

SURE, the Capitol Arts Theater, alone, may not be worth getting off of I-65 for, BUT, as a fan of "PUBLIC SUARES, this is one of, or thE BEST, one we've seen. The theater is a well restored "Art Deco" style, mid 20th Century, facility. The ATTRACTION is that it sits among many other beautifully maintained/restored buildings, on the beautiful & historic Public Square, and "inner city" area. It's an area with active businesses, shops, restaurants, theaters, court houses, etc. Some of BG's best restaurants in BG are short stroll, 1-2 blocks, nearby.

Recently saw the a capella group Home Free perform in this beautiful old theatre... It's been lovingly restored, the seats were okay (as okay as they can be in a venue of this age), the sound was great & the concert was phenomenal. The only problems were with access in & out of the theatre & the restrooms. It took us 15-20 minutes to get out of the building because the exits at the rear are so tiny. I can't imagine how long it took the folks in the balcony - they were backed up & not moving when we finally escaped. This was likely not a problem when the building was built but in today's lawsuit happy era, I could see it being a problem especially if, God forbid, the building had to be emptied in a hurry. The restrooms were also sadly lacking. Only two or three stalls in the women's, no room to stand & wait for one to open up & then when you got in, the only way to open or close the door was by straddling the toilet... Close quarters doesn't even begin to describe it! LOL! "Go" beforehand!!

The Capitol Arts Center has been around for a long time! However it is still wonderful for concerts, plays, dance recitals, etc. It is well taken care of and the atmosphere is truly wonderful! Hope this venue is always part of Bowling Green!

We visited the Capitol Arts Center and the town square during a festival and had a great time. There was a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, hot rods to look at, music to listen to, deep fried food to eat, and more!
Bowling Green does some fun stuff, get out there and enjoy it!
