About
So how did it all get started? Well, as Dorothy says, “there’s no place like home”. What words could be more appropriate when describing the dream of a small community that literally built a museum out of a rainbow's notion? It took the brains of a small group of leaders, the heart for what L. Frank Baum began in 1900 as a simple children's book, and the courage to take on the task of constructing a home for over 2,000 artifacts dating from 1900 to present day.

    Just a Fun Stop
I watched the Wizard of Oz many many times in my younger years. Has always been a classic. I could have sat all day and rewatched the who movie. It runs in continually. Lots of history about all characters & artifacts. Spin offs shows, theatre, toys and collectibles paraphernalia are all there based off of the original. Videos talking about how it was filmed & make up. This was made 85 years ago. Different than today. We enjoyed our time there. We were there for almost an hour.

This is a little gem. Don't miss it!
This is a little gem. The Museum in Wamego, KS has over 40,000 items from The Wizard of Oz, from the poster for the 1902 stage musical to artifacts from Wicked and more. It's a lovely place and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. We drove from Colorado Springs to Wamego, but from the road called and asked that they stay open a little longer so we could visit. When we got there, they were quite busy and we not only got to see the museum, but also got some great artifacts from the gift shop, which is one of the all-time best!

A delightful museum with all things Oz. See life size characters, authentic and reproduction costumes, an enchanted forest, with lots of signed photos, play bills, promos, and books by L. Frank Baum. Interesting historical info about the stars (including Toto), and those who missed out (like Shirley Temple.). Full length movie if you have the time or watch shorter flicks which are a must for trivia buffs. See toys, puppets, and musical scores. Find out how those early special effects were created and how technicolor was filmed. Learn about other film versions and live theatre. If you need your own Ruby Slippers, you’ll find them at the gift shop. Located in a tiny prairie town, the museum is just down the block from the Yellow Brick Road, the Oz Winery, Toto’s Tacos and other fun places to stop.

    Delightful!
The Oz Museum in Wamego is a delight for Oz fans of all ages. Artifacts of the books by L. Frank Baum and the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie are highlights along with life-size models of the main characters. The short videos are informative. The scope of the exhibits also covers other Oz books, illustrators, and movies. The 1939 movie runs in a small theater in the back of the museum. As time goes by, this museum is sure to enlarge as more artifacts and memorabilia are added to the collection. We enjoyed a pleasant hour+ looking at the exhibits plus time in the gift shop and walking around the town looking at the cute Toto statues.

    Worth a detour
Some nice exhibits focusing as much on the books by Frank L Baum as much as the movie. Conveniently laid out without being overly large, yet still containing a significant number of mementos. Particularly interesting were clothing items that actually belonged to some of the munchkins. A nice gift shop and no hard sell attitude. Friendly people and conveniently located. Although I wouldn't make it a vacation destination, if you are a Wizard of Oz fan and are in the general area it's worth a detour.

    Wonderful place!!!
We followed the yellow brick road right to this museum and we are so glad that we did! It was a little off of our path for our mini road trip, but it was well worth the visit! My dad and I used to watch Wizard of Oz all the time when I was a little girl so it was a special to me, as he has passed away. It didn't take a long time to walk through it, but it had a lot of replicas and held the kids' interest for the whole time we were there. The gift shop has some cute items with funny sayings, as well. I am so thrilled we stopped here on our trip!

    We’re not in Kansas anymore
Contrary to what people think, there is a lot of fun things to do in Kansas, from the beautiful scenery, green trees and waterfalls to great places to visit. For $10.00, The Oz Museum is a must visit! Taking pictures is allowed and you get a wrist band so you can go out, have something to eat and then go in to the museum again. Lots of history behind this great movie and there is a theatre where you can watch the movie. Oz lovers will be in awe, like I was!

    Pure magic!!!
Whether you're a die-hard fan of the Wizard of Oz or just someone who appreciates a dose of nostalgia, this place is pure magic. The museum is filled to the brim with memorabilia, from original movie posters to rare collectibles, and it offers a fascinating look behind the scenes of this iconic film. However, it's essential to mention that the museum is relatively small, so you can explore it fairly quickly. If you're seeking an all-day adventure, you might find that you've seen everything sooner than expected. Nevertheless, for lovers of all things Oz, it's a charming and whimsical experience that's sure to put a smile on your face!

LOTS OF FUN AND YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING
Very well done. Well organized and lots of information. You can not help but learn something about the Wizard of Oz from a visit. Maybe 45 minute experience if you are not heavy into it. We felt it was well worth the detour to this small town.

We spent two hours here on a Friday afternoon looking at and reading the displays. The 30 minute FAQ film with John Fricke was well worth the watch. They have a cute gift shop in the front lobby. If you're a Wizard of Oz fan, this is a must-do but if you're not then it is not.

This was a charming, delightful, off the beaten path attraction. We saw the sign for the Oz Museum on our way to the Eisenhower Presidential Museum and decided to stop on our way back through. We were so glad that we did. It was adorable with a lot of great information and artifacts. They have done an awesome job with this museum. They also have created a cute little yellow brick road across the street with beautiful murals of Oz characters. The gift shop had a lot of great stuff, as well. I highly recommend.

A lot smaller than expected, it didn't take long to go through it, Still there were some neat items to look at and props to take photos with. Gift shop had some fun items for purchase as well as a wind tunnel booth (extra cost.) I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here, but if in the area it's worth a stop if you're a Wizard of Oz fan.
