Travel 650 feet underground into an active salt mine! Experience a cool and soothing subterranean world formed by salt deposits in the Permian Sea long ago. See the raw mine as it was left more than 50 years ago on the Salt Mine Express train ride and catch a guided tour on a tram to the Dark Ride. You won't want to miss a special gallery filled with authentic movie costumes and memorabilia. NEW in June is the SAFARI SHUTTLE! Add a one hour guided tour to your underground adventure and go BEYOND STRATACA. See salt formations not available to the general public until now! Limited capacity -- only 12 visitors at a time depart 3-4 times a day.

This was a fascinating place to visit. We were on a long long trip and stop to stretch our legs. We learned a lot about the salt mines and some Hutchinson Kansas history. The employees were so friendly and knowledgeable. We will come back for...More

Your right and we are forming plans to spice it up a bit topside. Glad you had a good time underground.

A large group of us arrived by motor coach and since there were so many of us they broke us into 2 different groups because the elevator could only carry so many at a time. Quick ride for 650 feet down. We never felt closed...More

The train and tram are included in our admission so no worries there. It is a large mine and to think you saw less then 5% of the mine.

If you're visiting Kansas, this is a MUST SEE. Be prepared that this trip with the Dark Side, Train, and Safari Shuttle will require five hours to comfortably enjoy all that this experience has to offer! I planned it as a half-day trip and therefore...More

I arrived just before 3pm, and there were several groups of people in line. I decided to use the restroom first, and when I came back out, I learned that I needed to wait until 3:20pm to get on the next tour. I was told...More

Sometimes natures call out rules all else. Next time you pass through you might want to consider the Salt Safari, but be sure to use the restroom because it is an hour without.

I'll admit I'm a fan of road trips and those unusual attractions that can be found. Strataca was a great stop - I did the full package and although the different tours are similar - they work well as a total package. The staff are...More

Unusual is true where else can you find what may be the deepest flush toilets in the world.

I would do again as I am sure there was stuff that I didn't see as I got there a little late. Really neat setting all the stuff from the mines history.

This was a very unique find. We were taken 650 feet under ground by the same elevators used in the 1950s to bring the miners down and the salt up. The tour start with a self guided tour through the museum. We then took dark...More

This was a great place to visit. You take the same elevator that they use to hall the salt up with. They take you down I believe 650 feet below Hutchinson, KS. It is mostly a self guided tour except for a short train ride...More

The miners sometimes use our shaft when they make upgrades to there's. Next time you travel through you might consider doing the salt safari and go way out into the mine.

We enjoyed the visit very much. It was interesting to experience the total darkness of being 650 feet underground! My grandfather was a coal miner, so I wanted to get a glimpse of what it was like to be in that environment. I'm sure Strataca...More

Not much walking as you ride the tram for the majority of the trip.
