First let me state that this museum is on an active military base. So in order to visit the museum you will need some form of military ID (CAC, Retiree ID, etc.). The earlier review about not letting foreigners on had nothing to do with...More

The Frontier Army Museum at Fort Leavenworth is an excellent place to learn about the history of the Army in the area and the history of the westward movement of people in the U.S.

We were visiting our daughter and she took us by this museum. It Is on base and the army has taken care to preserve artifacts from as far back as the establishment of the base. It is arranged by year and starts at the beginning...More

We came to the museum expecting to spend about an hour. We could have used about 2 hours, but unfortunately for us, it was closing time after an hour. Great early military history and a recent addition of a Lewis & Clark exhibit. Allow about...More

Very disappointing: we were refused entrance to the fort in a rather rude way because we're from Europe so don't have an US id (which as we all know is a guarantee for safety and good behavior - not). Maybe some warning in advance on...More

Visited the museum while on business here at the Garrison. Superb!! I attended the US Army Command and General Staff College here at Fort Leavenworth, years ago. The Museum was smaller then, but played an integral role in my life even then. The saying then...More

The Frontier Army Museum is really a great place to spend a couple of hours. Even our 5th grader enjoyed it. From the artifacts to the information provided about the Westward expansion and even Fort Leavenworth you can't help but find yourself intrigued. It was...More

Although this is a rather interesting museum, because it is located on the grounds of an active military base, it takes awhile to receive clearance into this mini-village. Having not been there before, I was stopped by security at the gates for several ID's and...More

Hi again from Scotland. My husband has just contacted by phone the people who control the access to the Fort and been told that the only acceptable forms of id are US driver's licence or US passport. This seems to suggest that we will not be allowed in. Does anyone have any idea if this is correct? My husband's grandfather was in the US military in WW2 and was stationed at the Fort in 1942 (I think) so it'd be a real pity if we can't visit.

Honestly, I'm not certain. My suggestion is to call the garrison commander's office directly. He is the commander who is in charge of the installation and his staff can provide a more accurate answer for you. You can find... More

We'll be in and around Kansas City early next month - from Scotland. Do we have to make arrangements in advance to visit Fort Leavenworth as we are not US citizens?

They have a building you have to go to in order to get an access pass to enter the Fort. When we went there we had to fill out a form as to why we were there and present photo identification (Drivers License). In your case... More
