The 104 foot long town lattice truss span was erected in 1883 by Benton Jones and George K. Foster to bridge the Middle River. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 October 2023

We are glad we drove here on a beautiful July summer day on these Iowa gravel roads to see that this piece of history has been kept and not left to fall to the elements. You can’t drive across it, but you can certainly walk across it for sure. We are certainly glad we stopped here to see this historic monument and a glimpse into the past. The gift shop was closed. Not even sure if they even open it up these days.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 July 2024
- bearsDeWitt, Iowa7 contributionsAwesome back roadsThe back roads were great make sure you have good tires. There’s a couple ways to get there. It does say bridge close ahead, but that’s just for cars you can walk through. It was awesome. Great place to take pictures. Can’t wait to come back when it’s fall.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2024

Around Winterset there are a number of covered bridges, you can pick up a map at tourist office and there is parking at all the bridges. A couple are in the boundary of the town including one in a park the rest on the outskirts. The drive around took about 90 minutes and it is well worth it.

This bridge is the best of all six covered bridges. There is even a gift shop at this location. The only drawback is that the bridges are located on gravel roads. We had to wash our vehicle when we were done with our self guided tour.

My oh my. Ten years since the last review.
Nothing has changed. The bridge will last past the second coming.
Such is the construction marvel of the Roseman Bridge.
I suggest anyone the least interested in architecture make a mandatory stop at Roseman, the redundancy to keep the bridge standing is beyond remarkable.
Enjoy Winterset and stop off at the visitor center and talk with Melody. She is a wealth on info on all things related to 'Bridges of Madison County'.
The entire movie was filmed in Winterset, and the classic 'rain' scene ending the movie was cursory of the fire department! She can even tell you the place in Winterset the affair was consummated !!! LOL.
If your driving along I-80 and have a coupe of hours to kill this is the spot for you.
PS My second wife, hopped in the car and we've been happily-ever-happening for 22 years! Sometimes (but not always) they work out.

Although I have been to other covered bridges I had not been to this one. GPS provides several different routes and all are about the same. The bridge is in better shape and bigger than some of the other bridges. You can walk down some steps and take a path to the creek edge.
The area is clean and cared for perhaps because it is by a residential area. There were several groups and while there is not a ton of parking it did take care of our needs.
It takes little time to see and do all. The longest time is traveling the gravel roads.

On a day trip we drove to a viewed a 6 covered bridges. You can only drive through one at this time, Cedar Bridge. They were all beautiful and well worth the trip and stops. All can easily be viewed within a single afternoon. The Cedar Bridge north of Winterset also has a beautiful picnic area to spend time in. Well worth the trip to see the remaining bits of history.

Roseman Bridge is one of the many covered bridges known as the "Bridges of Madison County". They surround the area near Winterset, IA, a beautiful place to visit any time of the year, but especially in the spring time.
Our primary purpose for this trip was to visit all the bridges and sites from the book and movie.
We had breakfast at the Northside Cafe which really gives you the feel of going back in time. Great atmosphere - good old fashioned breakfast. Then walked the streets of Winterset before beginning our road journey to each of the bridges.
We visited all the bridges and stopped at John Wayne's birthplace, but didn't go inside. Plan on starting early and giving yourself plenty of time to absorb the splendor of this location.
We even took in the Madison County and Two Saints wineries on our way back to Des Moines.

Not really. You should contact the local Chamber of Commerce for this information.

Hola! Quería consultar cómo viajar desde des motines a Winterset para visitar los puentes de Madison. Saben si hay tours organizados en Winterset? Ya que no cuento con vehículo.

Where would I pick up a driving tour map of the bridges?
Written 14 June 2015
You can pick a map up at the chamber of commerce and welcome center , located at 73 Jefferson Street in Winter-set (on the northeast corner of the courthouse square). You can also find the maps online that you can print before you go but the welcome center will have some more detailed info you you!

Where would I pick up a driving tour map of the bridges
Written 14 June 2015
You probably could, but it would not be a place that I could see working well for the event. It's way out of town, very dusty roads, not a lot of parking and, being outside, you never know what the weather will do to a dirt/gravel road. If you want to use a bridge, use the one in the park. You'll have parking, pavement, and it would look better in pictures. Since the Bridges of Madison County was about infidelity, in a way, not sure how that works as the backdrop of a wedding.
