Located in the heart of downtown Sioux City, the Sioux City Public Museum...

Located in the heart of downtown Sioux City, the Sioux City Public Museum features large, colorful exhibits, interactive displays, and much more. Visitors will discover the "Spirit of Sioux City" through a lively 12-minute orientation film in the ornate "corn palace theatre." A variety of hands-on experiences are available including the award-winning "Innovation I-Wall" and "The Big Dig," which replicates an active fossil dig site. Highlights of the permanent gallery are rare Native American artifacts from the area; Sioux City's first "horseless buggy," a 1901 Oldsmobile; a 1930 Kari-Keen airplane manufactured in Sioux City; and a 1918 Mack fire truck similar to ones used by the Sioux City Fire Department. The two-story Disaster and Recovery Wall features multi-media presentations of three major Sioux City catastrophes: the 1904 Pelletier Department Store fire, the 1953 Floyd River Flood, and the 1989 crash of United Airlines Flight 232. Temporary exhibits feature topics of local and regional interest.

It's small but not that small. There are a lot of interesting Items in this museum that represent Sioux City's past. I recommend a visit. Its well worth the time spent there. I do however wish it were a bit bigger so they could display all of their inventory.

The local museum moved to a larger location in the downtown area, which has made it able to house a great display of Siouxland historical items. This collection gives great details of how Sioux City started, shows what industries thrived and events that happened over the course of its history. Great place to take the family!

We have lived in Sioux City for 4 years, and this was our first visit. Really interesting to get some of the background for things we've heard about in passing these last few years. Well done videos and mixed media displays. This is a great asset to Sioux City - and, it's free!

The Sioux City Public Museum is filled with interesting and educational displays for all ages. It's located downtown so bring change for the parking meters. However admission is a free will donation. My students especially enjoyed the disaster wall film clips and dinosaur fossil digging activity. Allow at least two hours to view all the exhibits. I highly recommend this... More

Have visited the Museum on numerous occasions and took the opportunity to go down and visit the two summer exhibits which were fun and educational. Images from Rolling Stone Magazine was the focus of one, with local history also and the other featured "African Wax Prints" which was outstanding.

We loved this museum. It took you from the first days of Sioux City to modern times. Watch the film and then walk through the interactive exhibits. We all loved it.
