This is a great museum. It has a representation of many different movements and artists. Many are misdwestern in origins. The big surprise was the puppets. At first I dismissed them until I recognized the puppets seen in the Sound of Music. Learning about the artist from Mason City opened my eyes to this lost art. The added benefit is... More

Beautiful venue. Nice collection of art.....permanent collection was on view. Good selection of regionalist paintings and prints. Lots of Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, etc. Very impressive but small collection of prints on display.....Chuck Close, Andy Warhol, Romare Bearden, etc. What a treasure to have in your small town....plus FREE to the public.

The museum is easy to get to and is in a pretty part of town. There are a lot of public sculptures & outside art nearby, including a short walk to the nearby Music Man bridge over Willow Creek. As an added plus, it is cool a small town museum is able to offer free admission. The museum itself is... More

Very few small town museums go though the rigorous process to become accredited as this one has. This museum is a gem, filled with multiple surprises. Better yet, it's free!

I did not expect to find an art museum of such outstanding quality in a town of only 26,000 in north Iowa. But the Tudor-style mansion contains a wonderful variety of paintings and woodcut prints from a plethora of gret artists. This place is a treat!

We were in town weekend of October 8th seeing FLW architecture and would have loved to see this museum. Visited Thursday evening, when the museum is open until 8 pm. We were the only visitors, and it was such a treat to be able to wander around in the silence. Captivated by the Bil Baird: World of Puppets exhibit, especially a wonderful owl and Winnie the Pooh characters. The art is a pleasing wide-ranging collection, including classic portraits, modernism... More
