Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Built by the order of Luca Arbore in 1503 - Luca was one of the most prominent boyars of King Stephen - and he had founded the building of the church in the village that bear his name - Arbore.
The outside paintings were done around 1540-42 (as the custodian on the premises explained us) - but not much can be seen today from the once magnificent scenes. The base color was green - when Voronet is about the famous blue and the church at Gura Humorului is about dark red - but again, not much of the green can be seen on the outside walls.
The Moldavian church painters knew the secrets of the colors that were created from the plants but that secret they took to their graves ... so nowadays is almost impossible to reproduce that shade - even with the XXI-st century technology available.
Entrance fee is 5 Ron - roughly 1 euro and the fee for tacking photos is 10 Ron - 2 euros - so it is not expensive at all . And this is the only UNESCO list church where we were allowed to take pictures inside the church!
So when you are in Bucovina include Arbore church on your list - it is interesting it is not crowded - we were the only visitors in the time frame we were there - and it is worth the trip.... go and see it while you still can.

The painted churches of Bucovina are world-famous. Each one has its charm, but Arbore is special because the XVI Century painter who did the interior of the church had just come back from a trip to Florence. Thus, whereas all seven other Bucovina UNESCO World Heritage churches are painted very much in the Greek-Romanian Orthodox idiom, the paintings in Arbore are strongly influenced by the Florentine Renaissance. The syncretic style is carried with aplomb and mastery, and I feel that it speaks more forcefully to those whose visual education was preponderantly in the Western, rather than Eastern Christian idiom. Arbore monastery is slightly off the beaten track (by the standards of Bucovina), and is quieter than Voronet, for instance. But it's definitely worth the detour.

another pretty monastery with well preserved paintings (they were actually doing something inside when we visited, so technically should look even better soon). do not wear shorts above knees (esp. women) because they will give you a piece of material to cover your lusty legs.

This church is often grouped with the painted monasteries by virtue of its external frescoes, but it is in fact merely a village church. At the time of our visit, the church itself was locked so limited opportunity to review the building properly. Its exterior is considerably more worn, and weather affected than other similar monasteries in the region, so it is one perhaps to miss unless you have plenty of time.

Yes, you will have to go out of your way to get here, but it's really worth it. Arbore is less restored, less splendid and less frequented, but somehow more accessible and "real". This humble hidden jewel quietly beckons you to contemplate the true beauties of this church. While the color are more faded, the art is impressive and the stories they tell are vivid. Another church inside a fortress with a working bell tower ( it rang while I was there on a Sunday morning with a fascinating percussion beat beforehand), scaffolding covered much of the back wall up in May 2016. Soon the colors will be like the vibrant ones at the other painted monasteries, but now you get a feeling of history and faith through the ages. This humble church richly rewards you. It's right on the main road through town, so you cannot miss it. If you're there in spring, be sure to stop and enjoy the stork nests with the babies sticking their heads out. And the drive out through the green fields is peaceful and calming. Great place!

An architectural monument, extraordinary by simplicity and beauty found in a mirific region of Romania. The painter who worked inside came from Florence . The church was founded by Luca Arbore, chief nobleman under three princes of Moldova

This church is not so crowded like the more famous sights like Sucevita, Molodovita or Voronet. Therefore we love this site. In July we have been the only visitors and this is a very peacefull experience. Moreover it is allowed to take photos without flash inside the church which is forbidden in all other Moldavian monasteries (allthough you have to pay for photographing, but inside the church it is forbidden, which is controlled by a visibly frustrated sister).

Even this church has been without a roof for a very long time, the remaining paintings are astonishing. Take your time to see them. The inside is recently restored.

As you enter, you can advance near the external niche beautifully painted in a style that is rare /unique in this region. The inside painting is nice as well and you can see the founder, Luca Arbore boyar.
