First, the ride is fun! It provides a wonderful view of the downtown, ice harbor area, and river. The story behind the elevator's existence reveals the way individuals dealt with problems. The location is near shops, restaurants, and hotels.

We were in Dubuque over Easter weekend and had a little time for something to do. This is the perfect attraction for people with not a lot of time, as it takes 10 minutes if you want to hurry. Cheap as well.

Well, it fulfills the elevator requirement, and is deliciously steep, but beyond that it's no biggie. It would be nice to have something to do at the top; even a few tables and vending machines would be a welcome addition. How about a few display boards with explanations of what we're looking at?

Fun slightly thrilling ride. We paid just $3.00 a person for round trip ride. We all were interested in the story the operator told about the reason the elevator came to be. Take the ride down ring the bell if your ready to come back or get out and walk around and then climb back on ring the bell and... More

Quick inexpensive fun! It was an experience for sure. Unfortunately we decided to walk from our hotel and our map gave us directions to the top of the hill so we were only able to ride the elevator down. We sure did get a good workout in climbing that hill but the ride down was fun. I would highly recommend... More

You get into a car that is stilling at a angle. There are about 6 seat at different levels because the car goes up the hill on rails. Half way up you meet a different car that is coming down. At the top you can look down onto Dubuque. This was used by the people many years to get from... More

After dinner downtown we made our way to the Fenelon Place Elevator Company. We boarded at the bottom and rang the bell alerting the operator at the top that we were ready. The car began it's ascent with the doors closing automatically. It only takes a few minutes to get to the top. The view over the city and the... More

This is a MUST try in Dubuque. It is a steep hill and there are 2 tiny cars so if you are claustrophobic or afraid of heights it may seem daunting but is totally safe. The inexpensive climb to the top affords you of views of 3 states and the Mississippi river.
