Love this area for a relaxed afternoon of shopping.

Although there is a lot of construction in the area (progress is good!) it is still easy to get around in this area to all the fun shops, galleries, restaurants and wine bars... read more

EV is very trendy, but I'm not sure why. If you like shabby chic, then ok. Area very eclectic...lot's of old & nasty places, meet newer overpriced real estate. Very hip place for young people or old people trying to recapture their youth. Good bar scene, downtown lights, but a parking garage is in order over here.

Although there is a lot of construction in the area (progress is good!) it is still easy to get around in this area to all the fun shops, galleries, restaurants and wine bars. Park your car and walk this small area to enjoy all the specialty shops.

If you're looking for the up and coming spot in downtown Des Moines, this is it. Lots of great local shops and great restaurants and all within walking distance from downtown.

I like living here (Polk County/Des Moines - I'm not currently residing in the East Village. I moved to Des Moines in 1995. The place was still recovering from a destructive and costly flood from two years previous. The city fathers/mothers weren't doing much to attract new business or new residents. The entertainment, dining, and cultural offerings were limited. Now... More

I can see that a lot of effort is going into trying to make this a trendy neighborhood. It just doesn't have the energy and vibe.

Downtown Des Moines is popping, and part of the fun is the East Village Historic District. Located at the base of the Iowa Capitol, are streets of historic buildings with boutiques, coffee shops, bars, art galleries and music venues. This area was the major hangout for reporters during the Iowa caucus's. The area is very walkable, and begins with a... More

We walked through the East Village during a stay for business. There are many business that looked interesting but we had limited time. We did stop in a couple shops that were antique type items. Would be interested in spending more time in the area, especially for dinner

East Village was one of the highlights of my three day visit to Des Moines. What can I say? Unique shops and restaurants and bars and not a chain restaurant in sight. Two of my favorite shops were Porch Light with a mixture of antiques and retro items. Surprisingly I thought the prices were very reasonable and Raygun with tons... More
