Definitely worth the trip. There are lots of things to see here, rich history, but best of all, the rotunda! Whether you're from Iowa or not, this french influenced architecture and decor is beautiful!

The Iowa capital building is a beautiful place. If you are visiting Des Moines, and have 15 minutes, just stop in to see it. You'll be surprised!

In town for a few days and decided to stop by the Capitol Building. Beautiful architecture. Make sure you go up into the dome.

The Capitol building is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The tour guides are friendly and so knowledgeable about the history of the building. The library is how I always imagined a real life version from Beauty and the Beast would look....More

Unfortunately we arrived about five minutes after closing (4 pm Saturday) and the beautiful gold dome was surrounded by scaffolding. We were able to walk around the building, look at statuary and monuments, and the large garden and steps extending to the west. Don’t miss...More

This building is worth a visit, it wouldn't be out of place in Rome or Vienna, lots of impressive marble and wood panelling

Capitols always have a lot of great art, architecture and history. We enjoyed our tour with Terry! Not all the rooms are open on Saturday but it was still worth our time.

The capitol staff members were knowledgeable and friendly. The dome is very beautiful. The tour was very educational and shows insight into the forming of our great country.

We very much enjoyed our visit to the capitol building. Parking was surprisingly easy (some other capitols could take note) and the facility itself was impressive. Worth a visit.

The state capital takes 1/2 hr to 2 hrs depending on how much you read and enjoy the displays. The natural museum in the building next to it takes about equal amount of time. We went with a teenager who was not into it... More

Yes there are steps but it does have handicapped accessibity. It is a bit difficult to get to some places easily. You are unable to go up to the top of the dome as it's 130 steps and no elevator. Saturday is open, but only... More
