The Capitol.

This is the most beautiful public building that I've ever been in. The walls are covered with art. So many of this building's smallest details are stunning.

If you haven't visited the Capitol Building, you are in for a treat if like architecture. This building is ornate and beautiful. One would be very impressed looking around inside. I would recommend it to anyone interested in history and design.

I have been in this building many times since the 1970's. This is a fun building to visit. It is well maintained, no dirt, dust, detritus lying around. Lots of stairs. Elevators for people with mobility issues. The pioneer mural is worth viewing - can see importance of pioneer women. Visit the legislative library. A jewel.

I've been to several capitol buildings across the country and this one in Des Moines is definitely one of the more memorable and interesting ones. With it being one of the newer Capitol buildings from the grounds all the way to the top, there is a lot of remarkable furnishings, artwork, and masonry put into the building. The tour guides... From the moment I walked in, to the moment I left, I was completely impressed. Friendly staff, gorgeous interior and artwork, incredible history & well worth climbing up the 90+ circular staircase to view the floors below. One downside; our extremely knowledgeable tour guide was very soft spoken and it was hard to hear her amid the clamour. Make sure... More

I really enjoyed my visit to the Iowa capitol. I took a tour and it was wonderfully done, very informative. So, I would strongly recommend doing a tour. Learned so much about Iowa. Their law library is simply stunning!

Having grown up in Des Moines I have visited the State Capitol many times and am amazed each time. Its architecture and its intricacies are amazing. The building is very accessible and user-friendly. The steps leading to and the surrounding grounds and gardens provide ample opportunity to take in one of the best views of Des Moines and to allow... More

Many years ago I spent many hours attending legislative events observing the House & Senate at work. Stopped today as I had a photograph and document for the Governor. First I had been inside for a long time. Entered the West door and found security surveillance with two pleasant persons who instructed me thru and to the door for the... More
