The Iowa State Capitol is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. Usually rated # 1 or 2 with Pennsylvania sharing the honor. The impressive gold dome is the largest in the nation, the inside is being restored to its original glory and has amazing hand stenciling and 29 different colors of marble. The tour staff is informative,... More

We had a nice and informative tour of the Capitol. We visited on Saturday morning and our group had few school students too, so it was pretty comprehensive. Our Tour guide Mr. mark was very good and explained history of each section of the building. Keep in Mind that on Saturday, couple of rooms are closed including Library for public... More

I have been visiting the Iowa State Capital Building since I was a young child. I love to visit every year or two and check the progress of the renovations. Each time I do the tour, I learn something new about the building. I took my kids each year while they were growing up. Now I take my granddaughter each... More

One of the better State Capital buildings with numerous historical exhibits that are well done. The architecture is superb. Parking was right out in front and entry was easy to find and quick through security. You are allowed entrance to a number of individuals offices including elected officials and the impressive library. Free and has a small gift shop at... More

Been here a couple of times...always an interesting visit. Stunning architecture, lots of history.!it's of steps, too. Take your teenagers and give them a civics and history lesson...we'll all be better off for it!

We toured the Iowa capital with our Cub Scout troop. Our area Representative gave us the tour along with a local tour guide. I felt the boys and parents were very entertained by the pair. The tour guide took the boys the the very top of the dome. The boys said it was very exciting to see the dome. We... More

I used to go to the Capitol building with friends as a tween and have races to the very top when they had it open to the public. We would have lunch there and walk around and look at all the historical exhibits I. The large enclosed glass framed areas. It was breathtaking to sit in the chambers of the... More
