It's was July 2019 when we crossed this pass enroute chandertal. We were the first group of bikers that season to cross this pass. The feeling was amazing. Beautiful landscapes on the way to pass. After the losar check post as soon you start riding on this pass the feeling is amazing, though the roads are bad but it's worth it.

myself with my family(wife and son) was in a tour of spity valley and planed to cross kunzum pass from kaza to manali. we actually stayed at losar a small village at foothills of kunzum to avoid the crowed at kaza and to shortened the distance by 60 km &.recommend all traveler to do so.when we reached at noon the weather was likely to have a snowfall, and we experienced it at hilltop only.we planed to start early morning at 5.00 am on 07/10/2014 to avoid traffic and visit chandratal on the way.but at 5 .00 am i discovered snowfall outside and our scorpio is covered with fresh snow and everything is covered with a fresh layer of snow. we are excited and start our journey to kunzum which was thrilling.as we are ascending the snow was thicker, road is getting blocked and finally we have to stop before 500 mts. from the top as two trucks are stuck up on the road. we spent an hour and experienced the snowfall upto 7 am.and decide to back without stuck up for hrs. although we could not cross the pass and reached manali but the experience of first snowfall of the season was breathtaking.the view from the top is awesome.we couldn't stand outside for more than 10 min.overall it was a good experience and advise traveler don't take risk in this situations.

Kunzum pass it located on the Route of Kaza, which connects Kulu and Lahual valley with Spiti at more than something 15000 ft altitude.
When I m travelling in HP or Jnk,I am always excited for Pass or "La"s...Because they are always amazing...we traveling towards key long for Kaza...and approaching Kunzum Pass..A big mountain with Steps kind of Glacier(pic attached ) was my landmark for this pass...and we reached there that mountain was so closed and we were at Kunzum...It was amazingly beautiful. We had some locals taking their lunch,we joined them.... this pass is birth place of two rives Spiti and chandra (pic attached)....AMS surely a threat but an hour at this beautiful place is surely justified....this places is surrounded by beautiful mountains...likes passes on leh and leh highway this pass don't have military presence or heavy tourist rush...so you can pack your lunch from kaza and have it here...but please don't litter.
I loved this everything about this place...as per locals when you come to this place you should do a circle around this stupas(pic attached)

Pass, whichever, is always beautiful as you are on Top at that region. Kunzum pass, 4500 meters, stands tall alone with kunzum mata temple at peak. Chandratal Lake is just 8 kms away from this point and a beautiful trek is available for expedition.

Kunzum Pass is the one of the highest road in India. The pass is at approx. 15000 feet above sea level. when the passes through this pass entire beauty of spiti valley and nature is with you. The Kunzum Mata temple is situated at Kunzum pass, we feel spiritually and lightened while staying at kunjum mata temple. The temple is situated on the road from Losal to Chandratal. We can see the beauty of mountain, the river and lush green area at the same time. During the month of May-June the temperature is around 5 to 10 degree which is very pleasant. We can enjoy the snow covered road beside us during the pass the area.

Spending a few moments around this monument is also a welcome break in a long journey. Today a heard of Yak was grazing here and eating the garbage and devouring some of the nylon flags and banners.
The long mani-wall has many coloured stones.
Bring your own flag-line and fix them with the others.
On the smooth stone in front of the minitemple you can lay a coin. The longer it stays there, the longer will be your luck or prosperity.

15000ft high, Kunzum Pass is the highest motorable point on the Manali to Spiti to Shimla or reverse route..
The Manali route has a steep ascent in altitude till Kunzum Pass..6700ft to 15000ft in 4-5 hours..
The route from Batal to Chandratal lake takes a diversion to Kunzum Pass..treacherous roads and constantly zig-zagging terrain..
There is a temple at the top where one can rest for 5-10 mins.
Its inaccessible for a large part of the year, but is a gateway to enter Spiti Valley from the Manali side..
At that height , the winds are quite chilly.
Manali to Kunzum to Losar is one of the worst roads that I have traveled on !

This is approx. 75 kms from Kaza . It connects the Kullu Valley and Lahaul Valley with the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. The elevation is 4590 mtrs. Last habitation before pass is LOSAR village. Surrounded by snow peaks and highlight is Kunzum Mata temple who protects the pass and travelers. Keep the region clean DONOT LITTER

What is the expected opening date in 2019. I am planning to do Delhi-Shimla-Lahul-Spiti-Manali-Delhi between 1-10 June. Would Kunzum pass and Chandratal be open in that period?

Whether Kunzum Pass is accessible presently?
What is weather condition there?
Whether it will remain open around 15th October

it is very dangerous and risky to go to kunzum during mid october. It's because the pass usually closes by 15th october every year due to snowfall. The temperature also drops below 0 degree celsius and this will be suffocating for a children who is 2 yrs old.
we passed through there during 23rd september and after returning we came to know that snow fell there throughout 24th and 25th september.
after passing kunzum pass the road is extremely bad . At some places we had problem in recognising which id the road.
If you got stuck before passing kunzum you can stay at losar.
and the nearest village after kunzum pass is chotru.
previous year my friend got stuck between kunzum pass and rohtang pass and they were stuck for 10 days .
again a 2yrs old cane have breathing problems at 15060 ft.
It will be very cold there by mis october.
my advice it is a taking a huge risk to invade kunzum pass during mid october with a 2 yrs old child
