great hiking

A fun place, especially in spring (fast flowing spring/creek), summer (picnic area) and fall (great colors)! Close to town, easy to find and get to- some climbing (optional).

I've repeatedly come back to Dunnings Spring Park. Cool water is refreshing on the hottest days, and one can (carefully) walk and scramble up the creek, the waterfall's edge and eventually into the cave where the spring pours out of the rocks. It's unique to have a clear and clean natural spring that you can get right into! Nearly everyone... More

My wife & I visited here, a beautiful fall day. A lovely waterfall here. A little hike up the stairs to see the water coming out of the buff but worth the effort. They are in the process of building a stone bridge across the stream. It will be an exact copy of the original bridge. Several nice hiking trails... More

The falls are somewhat hidden in town but one you find them, it's a wonderful little place. There are trails all around the falls, including a natural trail right up the side. They aren't too difficult for beginners or children. The water is typically ice cold, coming from the ice caves, and absolutely clear. A nice spot for hiking and... More

Loved seeing the waterfall, and the surrounding trees were really pretty with all the fall colors. We enjoyed taking the trail to the top of the falls.

This is a neat place. You can see the waterfall and that itself is handicap accessible but the rest is not. There are many stairs to get to another view and they are tough. These are the only "paved" trails so to speak. Neat but difficult to get around. They are also doing work on a bridge so there are... More

We had some time after biking the Trout Run Trail. Decided to check out this park near downtown. Had no idea what to expect. After a brief walk along the spring we encountered the falls. It was absolutely beautiful and not what we anticipated in the bluffs surrounding Decorah. If you're in the area ... by all means duck in... More

This is a hidden Jewel! Super place to take a lunch with at least 2 picnic tables. No restroom facilities though. Great for photo ops.

This is nature at its finest. So beautiful! The little waterfall is peaceful and a nice place to spend a quiet afternoon. It was not crowded at all when we were there. We also hiked the trail for a few miles. All in all a really nice way to spend an afternoon.

Dunnings Spring offers many compositional opportunities for photo captures throughout the day and seasons. Because of its location in a narrow canyon the light is constantly evolving but many photographers are going to be happiest if there is a slight overcast. The air is wonderfully freshened by the spring water mist. But it's a good idea to be wearing shoes... More
