Nice structure

Historic federal court house that is now a City Hall. The murals of the council room show what IA/US was like in the past.

The best thing to do in Cedar Rapids is to not stop or leave. I have been here many times in the last 30 years and it only has got worse. What a dump, it stinks, literally and on top of that they insist on having speed cameras on the interstate to ticket people who are trying to leave a... More

Tours are available of this Depression-Era structure which survived the Flood of '08, and which still houses gorgeous "New Deal" murals. It sits on Mays Island in the middle of the Cedar River, and houses a com missioned Grant Wood stained glass tribute to Veterans. Stellar! Grant Wood

Watch your speed on the main road in and out of town - speed cameras. Once you're at the city hall, enjoy the cool old building maintained by funding from speeders. Nice river view. Don't want tourists or shoppers thanks to the cameras.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they moved the city hall back downtown to an inconvenient place with parking problems. And for those of you driving through this "city", be advised that I-380 through the heart of downtown is strewn with speed cameras that mail you tickets two weeks after your visit as a thank you.... The city hall is planted right off the river on 1st Street East and is gorgeous inside. go inside and read a newspaper or magazine and relax and if you have any questions just ask and they are always willing to help.

Visiting this awful city in October for a wedding, we traveled through Cedar Rapids on I-380. I was following relatives who live in Cedar Rapids headed south. We were traveling 60mph or so. About 2 weeks after the wedding I was mailed a speeding ticket from a speed camera placed on I-380. My 2 relatives were not sent tickets. They... More

What a great building this is! Unfortunately, it was flooded during the big 2008 flood and was the City Hall up until that time. It's so unique to have this building on an island in the middle of the river and it's worth seeing if you're in this area.

I can't wait until the flood restoration is complete so I can finish touring the building and the rest of Mays Island.
