Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loved our 5 day stay here. Prices are much more reasonable than further south, beaches a quite and not crowded. The local shops have all you need - large IGA, bottle shop, butcher, Chinese, pizza. Locals are lovely. We explored perpendicular peninsular, Moona Moona creek-Myola, local beaches, Hyams.

Callala Beach is a great place to stay with the family and also it has a dog friendly beach. There is a fabulous pizza shop near the beach. Also, IGA supermarket, bakery, butcher, Chinese restaurant, and hairdresser are also within 1km. The beach is clean with very calm water for children to swim in. Lots of wildlife such as kookaburras and kangaroos, etc. We loved our stay it was very peaceful.

I am a permanent resident of Callala and, from the visitors' comments, many other people may like to be. There is one trap in some of the distances set out in the survey of restaurants and everything else outside of Callala Beach itself
. Google Maps use straight line distances. A good example is the distances quoted from the "Callala's" to Huskisson, around the 6 km mark. You need to be a strong swimmer or have the ability to fly. A car trip is around 30km+. Don't get me wrong, the travel is well worth the effort.
Walking, on the other hand is not possible but the drive is worth it.

We spent a weekend in July at Callala Bay and visited Callala Beach several times. We walked for hours along the beach and only saw a dozen people at most. The sand was so soft and white. I will have to come back again when the weather is warmer.

There is a short walk down to the soft white sand of the beach. The waves are gentle and safe for kids. I think it is an off leash dog area but all the dogs we met were well behaved. The sunset was amazing and the beach uncrowded.

Gorgeous beach with turquoise water and soft white sand. Stayed in a house across the road from the beach. Beautiful starry nights on tranquil night walks on the beach. Good facilities at beach.

We have a house at Callala and absolutely love it. Driving down from Sydney, we tend to go the M2, M7 then take the Picton turnoff to Wollongong. You can drive through Berry or go via Gerringong / seven mile beach, the latter trip is more scenic. It's approx a three hour drive from north of sydney, traffic can be pretty horrendous through the sydney tunnels on a Friday afternoon though. There is a train from central redfern to Bomaderry (ie Nowra) but then you don't have a way to get to Callala, so a car is essential.
The sea is mainly calm and crystal clear, and a little cold at the start of summer. After severe storms it can dump a fair amount of seaweed on the beach though - we have seen red seaweed and brown seaweed, but the beach is so long you should always find somewhere to swim.
Callala has a very small shopping centre, but there is a new Woolworths at culburra (which also has our favourite Chinese restaurant, the Sun Sun!).
Often we walk along the beach and see dolphins playing close to shore; look out for the sea eagles and don't forget the black cockatoos, which make a very distinctive cry.
If you want a quiet, peaceful holiday, have dogs and/or young children, this is the place for you! Nowra is around 20 minutes away, so on rainy days there is Nowra cinema. Huskisson is around half an hour away for a choice of more restaurants, different walks or a whale watching cruise. scuba diving courses are offered at a dive centre in Huskisson.
Callala is not normally a surfing beach (unless there is a swell after a storm) try Culburra for that or even Caves Beach at the National Park. Some more ideas: theres a pleasant walk to a wreck at currarong, snorkelling at Honeymoon Bay, visit the Nowra zoo, or have fish and chips at Greenwell Point (the pelican rocks is our favourite). For Italian, I recommend Trevi Foutnain in Nowra, but you have to book at both or you might be disappointed.

Callala beach is the longest beach in JB & with only a small section that is dog free, we were able to walk for KM's on the white sand, throwing the ball & swimming our dog. The gentle shoaling & protection of the beach means there was no harsh shore break which was great for swimming. I also liked the laid back feel of the area with only a couple of shops present & no traffic.

Callala beach is a magnificent 4km stretch of perfect white sand and azure waters. It is the northernmost beach inside Jervis Bay. It has a beautiful laid back village vibe that reminds you of the sleepy beaches of your childhood. It has a great range of holiday rental properties. Within the town there is an RSL Club, takeaway shop and pizza restaurant. It's the simplicity of Callala that really appeals - but at the same time you are a short drive from all the attractions that Jervis Bay has to offer. Skip the overpriced and overrated Hyams beach and head to Callala Beach. You won't regret it. We also recommend staying at the magnificent Hayes Beach House.

If you are at Huskisson and you take in the vista, you realise that you are looking at Callala Beach - the north side of Jervis Bay. Callala Beach is tucked away, without the crowds and yes the sand is on par if not whiter than Hyams Beach. Callala Beach is the longest beach in Jervis Bay and is almost a Greek island experience with it's infinite shades of blue. Laid back and only 2 hrs from Sydney, makes this an ideal place to get away and recharge.
