Nicknamed the "Little Smokies" because of the area's resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fog-shrouded ravines. Glaciers from the most recent ice ages stopped short of the "hills o' Brown," but their meltwaters helped create the narrow ridges, steep slopes and deep gullies of Brown County State Park. Indiana's largest park is a traditional fall color hot spot, with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland.

We visited for the day and hiked trail two, which was just enough for us to feel accomplished, without exhausting any of us city-slickers. Easy trail for the entire family, so long as the kids can handle the length. We saw many families with toddlers and baby-packs along the way.

We went in the spring, when the Dogwoods and Redbud's were in full-bloom. You could still see past the young leaves, across the mountainous ravines. It was great weather for hiking and we learned a lot about native plant-life. The trails were safe and cleared for our hiking pleasures. The waterfall was active and stunning to view as well. I... I wanted to fill up an afternoon while my husband was taking a woodworking class. Brown County State park is about 40 minutes from Whiteland, IN and the drive is fantastic! Hilly, swoopy and tree covered two lane roads are some of my favorites. The park is huge but well placed road signs will get you to whatever part of... More

We loved hiking in the state park, there were several trails that were great to take my 5 year old on that weren't too difficult or too long for him!

This is the 2nd time in about 8 months we have visited Brown County State Park to Mountain Bike. The trails are amazing and we couldn’t wait to get back after our visit last fall. This visit we biked all 3 days for about 2 hours each time. I took my 12, 14 & 16 year old with me. We... More

Melissa, I'm glad to read that you enjoyed the mountain bike trails in Brown County State Park, but I'm sorry about the confusion you encountered at the park entrance gate. Clearly the attendants need some additional training on how and when to sell the Off-Road Cycling permits. They should've been readily able to explain the information to you that you... More

Enjoyed the park very much. Only negative was that we were charged more to enter the park as an out of state car.

Excellent experience staying at the state park. We stayed two nights Big lots. The campground was really quiet at night. Electric hookup only but there were plenty of water options. The dumping station was easy to use.

One of prettiest State parks around. The views from the top of the hills are spectacular as good as the Smokies. Grandson enjoyed Nature Center and Abe Martin Lodge with water park.
