Well maintained site with the Auld Kirk from the Tam o'Shanter tale. Robert Burns's father William is buried here, but not his mother. The gravestone is carved on both sides and is the third as the previous two were chipped and defaced by souvenir hunters. His daughter Isabella and two of her daughters are buried in front of William's gravestsone.

A quick stop-off in the rain during our Burns walk, we enjoyed this fascinating graveyard and ruined church, made famous by Burns’ Tam o Shanter poem. Featuring Burns family graves, some lovely tombs and some interesting Green Man imagery, we thought it was well worth a stop off on the tourist trail. Gravel paths, information plaques and a calm quiet place for reflection.

Walking through you can just imagine the scenes from burns poetry 'Tam oshanter'. Worth a look if your in the area, just a short walk from the museum.

These church remains are so atmospheric and enchanting.Often you can find yourself alone there and have a real good look at all the gravestones. You can see where Burns got his inspiration for part of the setting of Tom O Shanter. It's beautiful in all seasons too

To be found on the main road opposite Alloway Parish Church. The grave of Robert Burns father can be found here and is situated pride of place at the entrance to the churchyard.

Interesting looking at the weathered grave stones, very atmospheric particularly on a dark dull day. Good to take a look.

You have to spend some time here, and absorb the spooky location, and take yourself back in time to when Burns wrote of this Auld Kirk featuring heavily in Tam O'Shanter, very evocative

Basically a Ruin, that takes a couple of minutes to look at, but lots of Associations with Burns Poems/Stories/Family, which are explained in its entrance.

Part of a Rabbies tour. The old kirk is filled with interesting graves and headstones.

We could have done with more time to explore. I would say 30 minutes would be good if weather is kind.

This is a ruined church that dates back to at least the 13th century, although the present structure dates to the 16th century. It's major claim to fame is it's mention in one of Robert Burn most famous poems, Tam O'Shanter and the line "By Alloway's auld, haunted kirk."

In truth, there's very little to see except wander amongst the gravestones of long forgotten dead. Although Robert Burns father is buried here. Can't miss his grave as it's right in front of the entrance.

There's paving stones along the paths inside the churchyard with reference to the poem. A must see for Robert Burns fans. Probably not for anyone else.

Very spooky but intriguing place to stop. A very old church with ancient gravestones including Robert Burns father.
Had lots of quotes in stones throughout the graveyard
The church ruins are good to walk round and get to see.
It's only across from the Robert Burns memorial but worth stopping and wandering around
