This is a must see if you’re in Mawlamyine. It’s only about an hour’s drive south.
The war memorial is beautifully laid out with stones and plaques with names of over 3000 fallen soldiers during the period 1939-1945.
Despite the horror of war, this Garden...More
This is a special place, the joint cemetery and resting place of many Allied soldiers. Myself and my father visited last year, we were welcomed by the groundskeeper who did an excellent job of maintaining the gardens, and respectfully spoke of many soldiers of different...More
A Worthwhile visit to honour all our men who died for their countries at war at the hands of the Japanese on the Thai-Burma railway. Very sad seeing those so young and now knowing how they suffered. This is a beautifully kept memorial.
The fact that so many of my countrymen are burried here, made this trip a must-see being in Hpa-An. As a child I grew up with the stories of the Burma railway, to finally be here and see all those graves make you realize once...More
A well kept war cemetry, large grass, abig cross and many lines of gravestones, one for everyone who died, mainly at constructing the railway line, with name, nationality, unit and age. A sad and touching walk, going through. They provide also books with the names...More
This was our first stop on the trip from Bangkok to the bridge. Very sobering, a lovely cared for memory to those who lost their lives. The grounds are manicured and are an endless show of respect to those to did not return from here.
This is quite well maintained and no entrance fee. Felt quite saddened as it's a grim reminder of a war. Message on the grave ( do not know what to be called, sorry about it), mentioned loving father or son, etc and most of them...More

We took a bus from the main bus station from Yangon to Mawlamyine. It took 6/7 hours, but the bus was comfortable enough with air conditioning and did stop for a rest stop approx half way. Some of the roads were rough but manageable. We used Elite Express. Stayed at the Cinderella Hotel - a must! The front desk helped organise a taxi from there to Thanbyuzayat and helped with a complete day's itinerary. It took 1.5 hours to the cemetery. Would not have missed it for the world!!
