This home was occupied by the famous poet James Whitcomb Riley. Many of the furnishings are original, and there are two floors to tour; there is also a nearby visitor center. You can watch the film on the Internet and save yourself time at the...More

This historic two-story brick home located in the quaint Lockerbie Square Historic District was not the birthplace of poet James Whitcomb Riley, but where he lived in a rented room as an adult when he penned his famous works. Most of Riley's household items are...More

We fit this visit in during a quick trip to Indiana and we’re so glad we did. The home has been a museum for almost 100 years. Nearly everything in it is as it was when the poet passed away. The home is gorgeous and...More

A really great house to tour! All of the furnishings are original! The family was very well off for the time period. The neighborhood is a great place to drive through.

I am a big fan of the old Victorian houses with tall windows and high ceilings. This house is doubly cool because it has a lot of the original furnishings, carpets, crockery and kitchen appliances preserved. The ceilings are 12 ft, windows are draped in...More

This house still had 80% of the furnishings that were there when Riley lived there. It is a good example of what the state of the art was in furnishings, baths, kitchens, etc. Riley's history was described by a knowledgeable guide, though details of his...More

I've been on hundreds of historic house tours and this has to be perhaps the best one I've ever been on. The video before the tour was informative and our docent was very knowledgeable. The interior of the house, which dates to the 1880s, is...More
