There really is nothing else to see but this house in the area. I wouldn't suggest a planned visit unless you are passing through and are nearby.
It is interesting to see how so many people could have lived in such a small house.
Drove to Gary, Indiana specially to see MJs family home. My kid is MJ obsessed so this was a Xmas surprise for him.
Abit disappointed to learn of the memorial plaque having been removed but the whiteboard offered a little spark for my kid who...More
First of all... there is no reason to be scared about Gary! We took the chance to visit the place on our way from Chicago to Indianapolis... otherwise I wouldn‘t recommend it... it‘s really just a House with a few signs that Jackson lived there!...More
Stopped by here on the drive from Chicago to Michigan. Very interesting little house and I’m quite amazed how so many people lived in such a tiny house. There’s no tours in the gates were locked so it’s just a place where you can take...More

This is a Photo-Stop and move on. There is really nothing to see but a gated house. There are a few plaques and a place to leave a message on a white-board. Bring your own marker - the one their is dry. If passing by...More
It is a small house, the size of a 2-car garage. Don't know how you could raise a large family in this environment, even more amazing when you could get your kids to sing about it in public. Over-rated but if you wish to touch...More

I live in Chicago & I drive to Gary (when necessary). I do NOT recommend taking a bus to Gary with the intention of walking around. Gary has many deserted areas which increases the potential for crime. When you visit MJs home you can only view it from the outside gates. The area is residential and there is not a heavy police presence. Additionally, you will not find a decent hotel in Gary.
So here is what I recommend: rent a car in Chicago. (Much cheaper than an Uber) During the early part of the day, using a GPS system, drive to Gary to view the house. Then head back to Chicago and enjoy what Chicago has to offer.
