A real gem

Unique to Tasmania. If you are into birds (and snakes) you’ll get value for money here. Concessionary entry charge offered to non-Australian pensioners, too.

Allow at least 90 minutes for the return walk, but spend time in the visitor centre first to key in what you can see. Enjoy the quiet of the wet-lands but probably best to stay to the paths.

This is an easy 2 hour walk along a boardwalk and across level timber bridges. I think it's great that an environment like this still exists for public viewing, so close to a busy town. Well done to Parks and Wildlife and the volunteers involved in maintaining this area. We went just before midday and saw a lot of birds.... More

A lovely walk through the wetlands ending on Tamar Island for a picnic lunch. Many varieties of bird life to be observed on the way there and snakes sunbathing below the board was was very interesting.

This walk through the wetlands is easy and is a great attraction close to Launceston. There is a good interpretation centre and a series of boardwalks and bridges that take you out to an island in the Tamar River. Good interpretive brochure and signage for the wildlife and history.

A beautiful winery set in the gorgeous Tamar Valley, sweeping views across the vineyards to the river. Wine and dine with a gorgeous view. The wine was superb and we shared two platters which were delicious. Would highly recommend this winery to anyone looking to enjoy food and wine with a view.

Beautiful scenery, loads of wildlife and a level 4km walk out to the island and back. Only drawback was that we didn't see any snakes, to my son's disgust.

This was a lot longer than we had expected it to be but it was a beautiful and pleasant walk for our family of 2 adults and 3 kids. The people at the visitor centre were very friendly and informative, and the walk itself is very peaceful. The first part of the walk up until the island is fully wheelchair... More

40 minute walk from the main road to the Tamar river edge. Very tidal water side with lots of birds and wild life. Little bridges linking the little islands. Not such a good walk in the rain as there is no cover anywhere but nice in the sunshine. Need a hat and sun screen on a sunny day.
