We visited here with our six month old daughter, I checked the website to confirm that they had baby change facilities prior to our visit. On arrival that was our first port of call, and it somewhat spoiled the entire visit. The “baby change facilities” is a filthy, rickety, 2nd hand 1980’s ‘plastic sling’ style portable change table hanging on a bit of wire in a dirty cramped toilet. The large dog eared sign taped to the wall above it advising that they take no responsibility for injury that occurs from its use is a nice touch. We changed Bub in the pram, which any parent knows is less than ideal, but there was no way I’d use the provided amenities.

A family attraction needs facilities that cater to families. With the entry price charged, the owners could afford the small outlay to have a koala change table installed.

The paths were very boggy and not pram friendly (even with a robust off road jogging pram we struggled, a stroller would be impossible to use).

The cafe was quite reasonably priced, the meals generously portioned, but definitely quantity over quality. However for a family on a budget with a few kiddies, you’d feed the family for under $35.

The animals were okay, primarily native wildlife with a few exotics thrown in for good measure. Don’t expect a comparable experience to mainland zoos, but for what is, in essence, a glorified backyard petting zoo, it’s a good range.

All up, not a bad day out with Tasmania’s extremely limited attractions, but not something that would warrant multiple return visits.

Amazing place although not massive in size it is full of great animals and the keepers are very knowledgeable, they are very friendly and this zoo has a great relaxed feel. I paid for a personal experience with a red panda and it was so fantastic well worth the money as I got to hold and feed it for what felt like a good amount of time was never rushed. Highly recommend

Thoroughly recommend Tasmania Zoo. The animals are well cared for, the carers are lovely people. You can pay to have interactions with some of the animals which we did.. the children loved holding Poppy, the Tasmanian devil and also the wombat. They loved feeding the kangaroos. All in all a fantastic day out for the children.

It's a terrible shame I didn't read these comments before going today. Where to start, it is very expensive for what how the "Zoo" is maintained and animals are fed. Those poor lions 😪. They looked as though they hadn't had a good meal in months and you could see the deep gaps between their ribs even at a distance. One took 5 minutes to sit down because it looked like it was in so much pain. Is it worth having these poor animals in captivity like this when it hurts to see them in this condition. The tigers also looked under nourished and quite bonney. The dinosaur part was disgraceful with no real knowledge and was very unkept. We saw one animal keeper/ staff member on the grounds the hole day! Even this person seemed distant/disinterested when asked questions about the animals. There was litter on the grounds and hardly any bins. There was a dead bird in the bird enclosures which our children spotted out.
The enclosures were mostly full of dead branches with no fresh feed for the animals. I realise the Giraffe enclosure must be knew but it is horrible. There was nothing to shelter them from anything outside other than a high metal stand with what looked to be one dead branch hanging from it that needed replacing. I could go on but honestly they say people won't support things in Tassie, maybe if they put some love and time into the animals well being and enclosures they would see better results.
What an absolute rip off for a family day out.

One of my favourite parts of my Launceston trip! The lady at the register was so friendly and was doing a great job despite having to go back and forth to answer the phone - having worked in retail I sympathise 100%. I did the red panda and Tasmanian devil encounters and found them absolutely wonderful. The red panda one was well worth the $80 as you got a decent amount of time with the beautiful pandas, as well as the opportunity to feed them. The guide was extremely informative and had lots of knowledge to share. The devil encounter was also nice but much faster, as there were at least 7-8 other people involved. You get to hold the devil for about a minute and get your photo before passing it onto the next person; very brief but still worth it! The zoo is very spread out and not all the paths are sealed, so make sure you wear good walking shoes. Some exhibits were run-down and/or empty, but this is a minor criticism. There's plenty of parking but be aware there is no public transport that comes out near the zoo. Would definitely come again!

Congratulations on the staff and volunteers on keeping the zoo well maintained through the difficult covid period. We spent 3-4 hours here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which is more intimate and less crowded than a mainland zoo. My best tip would be to follow around the keepers at feeding time (around 11am) to see the animals at their most active. The adverse reviews are overly harsh in my opinion..

I visited my favorite place today tasmania zoo and was great to see a familiar face Mandy who is very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable along with the other staff. It is very easy to see that they all enjoy working there and care for all the animals in their care. There was a lot of changes since we last went there more animal enclosures and more tables and seating under cover near the giraffes so you can relax, watch and enjoy the atmosphere of the zoo. My favorite of all time is the Red pandas, meerkat and the giraffes are amazing to see. It is a place for people of all ages to spend afew hours walking around at your own pace to take it all in and food and drinks are available at very reasonable prices. Will definitely be going back again soon. It's great to see the car park is now all refurbished as well which is great.

Tasmania Zoo is amazing. There are cages, but the size of some is awesome . The zoo CLEARLY cares for the animals well, keepers are very knowledgeable, with excellent communication and entertainment skills. Cheeky emu stole our food! I’d come back in an instant!

Save your money . I really wanted to like the zoo but sadly not . It’s overpriced and a lot of the animal enclosures were under maintenance. The zoo is very outdated and the “Jurassic park “ walk was very very old and warn. Our animal encounter only lasted 5 minutes with a zoo keeper who didn’t know to much about the animal . I wouldn’t go out off your way to see the zoo it’s definitely the worst zoo I’ve been to .

The entry is quite high considering when you enter there are so many empty enclosures, or cages with one little animal hidden in the corner. One positive improvement is that you can enter the wallaby enclosure, and feed them. Maybe the Zoo could build a nocturnal house to showcase all our wonderful native animals. Rather than worry about getting every sort of bird and monkey from other countries of the world. Focus more on Australian animals please.
