Beautiful architecture (I.M.Pei), nice cafe/ gift shop, but it's the collections that really shine. Excellent selection of modern art on first floor... great teaching/learning resource. Greek, roman, Egyptian star on the second floor, and the real gem, in my opinion, is the African and pacific rim collection on the third floor. Always an interesting show in the large special exhibition... More

Had some time to spare while on the IU campus yesterday and decided to visit. The museum is a short walk up the hill from the parking lot of the Union (look for the red ring modern sculpture out front). It has a surprisingly broad collection for such a small facility with numerous well known artists represented. You can easily... More

Very impressive museum. You can find Monet, Picasso, Pollock. What I found a waste of space was the Chee Wang Ng exhibitions.

The design was done by I.M. Pei, who did the pyramid at the Louvre. Apparently, none of the corners are done at a direct right angle. Please note that this will soon be closed for a few years due to renovation and/or expansion.

I have difficulty exposing my husband to culture. I literally drugg him to this museum, based on the fact that the University was on holiday, and there wouldn't be a problem with parking. He has had to deal with the parking issue before and didn't want to do it again. We finally find this place, put $2.00 in the meter,... More

Being a Brit. and excuse me if that sounds patronising, but I wasn't expecting much of this museum. What could there possibly be of much interest in a small town museum in the U.S that could not be seen at home ? I have to say, I was most pleasantly surprised. They have native American Indian stuff that was really... More

The collection of ancient, medieval and modern art was impressive beyond description. There were some serious pieces here that I've only seen in textbooks. Some of the art was so famous and incredible that we were nearly moved to tears. We are museum fanatics and have seen many, many less impressive museums. Don't miss this one if you are anywhere... First is the building itself. Designed by I.M. Pei, renowned Modernist Architect, It is very beautiful on a campus with many beautiful Gothic buildings already. The attraction is free, which is a huge plus. You normally can't find this level of quality for free anymore. I would recommend this museum to anyone with eye for the arts.

African, Egyptian, European and more. Paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and many other cultural artifacts. Docents are very helpful and will set up guided tours for groups. Rotating exhibits keep it fresh.
