The scenery was definitely amazing. However, it's a long drive from gence until u can reach the lake. And around the lake, there is nothing much to go except taking a few photos and enjoy the view. There was a small cafe/restaurant. We took a taxi from ganja and he took us there, waited for us then took us back to ganja city center for 50 manat. We also wanted to go to maralgol, but the weather was still wintery, so the road was closed.

It is truly a nice place in the countryside and a great visit to the Lesser Caucasus. However, there are many people and you can only watch the lake and get close to it at one specific spot, while all the area is closed. Do not expect a kind of trekking/nature experience. They have a nice place to drink tea on the shore of the lake. The road to the lake from Genje is spectacular with nice views on a clear day of the Lesser Caucasus range.

Lake GoyGol that literally means blue lake , located in goygol national reserve about 1 hours from Ganja city. You can get a taxi or village cars to the lake entrance. You have to pay 2 AZN (2016) per person at the gate and 1 AZN for car. There is another lake (Maral Gol) you can reach by minibuses near goygol way that costs 2 AZN. If you want to be far from crowded and buildings and see natural areas , you must hike to other side (to the Kepez mount) and find ways in forest.

I've visited this lake as an individual tourist last year in summer during my business trip to the Ganja Region. The lake can be easily reached by car, at a check point you only have to pay the entrance fee of 2 manats. The surroundin is beautiful with some very nice views from teraces of local restaurants. Because of the proximity of the border with Nagorno Karabakh tourists are not allowed to walk around the lake or to surrounding hills. There is no tourist infrastructure anyway (except restaurants ner the end of the access road).

Lake Goygol which means Blue Lake is located in the Goygol national reserve about 50 km from Genja, by car a bit more than 1 hour drive on very good asphalt roads. As the lake is at an altitude of about 1,550m part of the drive is steep uphill. Especially the 7 km drive from the entrance to the parking lot near the lake has many hairpin bends. At the entrance gate of the park I paid 5 Manat (about 3 US$) for passing with 2 passengers (2 Manat/person and 1 Manat for parking). The lake was created by an earthquake a long time ago and is now being promoted as tourism destination, on the way to the park entrance there are numerous restaurants and vendors of local fruits and herbs. From the parking lot one can reach the lake either by foot or use one of the exhaust producing tricycles. The water can’t be touched when reaching the lake, visitors taking selfies is the main activity. The view of the lake is nothing special, my local colleague was quit disappointed, he had expected a spectacular view. All in all it was a nice experience to drive there but definitely not one of the must see attractions.

A beautiful lake set in the lower Caucus mountains, easy access by car but no hiking around the lake as there is a disputed border there so you are limited to the small area where everyone has to try and fit in. Other than being cramped and having dozens of people underfoot it is lovely to see but not a must-see.
