If you do not take at least 100 pictures with Alma Mater while you are a UIUC student, did you really go here? "To thy happy children of the future, those of the past send greetings." Go Illini!

Beloved Alma Mater, flanked by Labor and Learning; however, after the repair job, a small group of students sneaked in a vote to coat this statue to keep it an ugly brown color instead of allowing it to age with patina back into its former lovely, green color! The whole campus votes to get her repaired, then gets blindsided by... More

Everyone goes here to get their photo taken, and it's easy to see why. It's inspiring and monumental.

I never paid much attention to it when I was a graduate student there. However, I do "stop by," take a look and read the inscriptions whenever I return to campus for visits. "Impressive" is an understatement.

Love the symbolism of this statue where the students of the past welcome the students of the future. In the 70's this looked green and needed to be restored and now it has been! Beautifully!

The renewed and improved Alma Mater was always striking to behold even before the work done to clean & stabilize the statute had begun. This is a wonderful way of tying one's experience and growth at U of I into a visual summation that everyone can find their own memories by looking at its design. I dare say that even... More

I hadn't seen Alma since before her renovation, and she is even more beautiful than before! If you're just making a quick stop to see her, the half circle drive next door at the Union has 10 minute parking, just enough to snap your picture with Alma! I'll also happily note that while taking pictures with my daughter and husband,... More

My feelings about the Alma Mater can be summarized in an analogy: The Alma Mater to a U of Illinois student/alumn is like the Statue of Liberty is to an American.

An alumni pointed out this statue to me, which I had a chance to see and take pics. Great feeling around presence
