As other reviewers have said, this pub is as far from a modern gastro-pub as you could find. The location is brilliant for walking, and the Black Horse is a treasure.

My husband and I called into The Black Horse while out for a walk on a cold, sunny Sunday in February. We were welcomed by a real fire and a gorgeous smell of bacon! We had a drink and a bacon baguette each for lunch....More

Nestled in a beautiful woodland setting, with lots of local paths for walking nearby. Great to see the real ales from local microbreweries served by gravity from the barrel. The interior is simple, hugely atmospheric and not been modernised, this this pub has SOUL!!!!!! Long...More

Dear Lord, thank you for this genuine, quaint, crumbling old pub. Please place it in a protective bubble and never let a chav or oik find it. Like having a beer my great-grandmother's living room. Loved it.

Don't go here if you want gastro food and trendy decor. If you want to step back in time and enjoy real ale straight from the cask there's nowhere better. And the hanging baskets are lovely in the summer.

Brilliant pub beyond doubt old fashioned. Friendly landlord going down to cellar to collect beer then friendly family appearing from different doors. Crackling log fire and unpretentious surroundings added to atmosphere along with landlord's artistic ability. Great pub !!
