Visiting Stanthorpe and surrounding areas for some hiking, wine tasting and a winter chill experience, my wife and I were advised by a friend to ensure we had the Apple Pie at Suttons. So after a wintery morning climbing the Pyramid at Girraween National Park, we headed to Thulimbah and Suttons Juice Factory. The warm, well-stocked cafe and shop lies within an unassuming shed in an apple orchard, just off the highway. The cafe boasts many mouth-watering, wholesome treats, but we settled for a cappuccino and the recommended Apple Pie. It was worth the recommendation, wait and detour, and exceeded any expectations we had. It is a large serving, so my wife and I shared a single piece. We didn't purchase any of the jams, sauces, liqueurs and ciders that were onn sale in the shop - we'll leave that for the next visit.

The apple pie was as good as various friends had told us. So fresh and home baked. The no-frills cafe had its own charm situated in the large shed with plenty of additional out door areas. The service was friendly and prompt. It is an easy exit from the highway just north of Stanthorpe with plenty of parking. ( The toilets included a baby change table which is a plus). The highlight of course is the food, apart from the apple pie signature dish, we bought the apple syrup which goes so well with porridge and we were excited to find they also make limoncello. Overall, well worth the stop and very family friendly.

A visit to Stanthorpe always means a piece of apple pie at Sutton’s. We sat under a shady tree outside in the fresh air and the apple and berry crumble was delicious as well. Very crowded when we arrived around lunch time and I felt the staff were run off their feet, so not the friendliest this time. Food is always yummy every visit.

Where do I even begin to describe this shakedown experience at Sutton’s Juice Factory?
After lunch at Jersey Girls Cafe, craving a slice of apple pie and a coffee to finish off a nice afternoon, little did we know we were about to be blindsided by the sheer audacity of their pricing.
Keen to enjoy a slice of my favourite dessert and take an apple pie home for the family, I was absolutely staggered at the asking price of $65 for a whole pie!!!
…and a mere $13.50 for a slice too. I mean, really? Was this pie covered with gold flakes? NO...
Perhaps it’s baked in an oven fueled by the tears of ripped off customers?
I must be incredibly naive, because silly me thought that buying directly from the farm might actually be reasonably priced. You know, the farm that literally grows the apples in abundance, right there, on-site. But no, it seems they’ve taken the concept of “farm-to-table” to mean “farm-to-bankruptcy.”
Explain to all of us poor unsuspecting apple pie lovers, dear Sutton’s, how on Earth you justify charging triple what I’d pay at a retailer in Sydney—after the wholesaler, retailer, and all the middlemen have taken their cut! Do the apples come with a free lesson in gullibility? Or is the secret ingredient in your pie a blatant disregard for reasonable pricing?
And let’s not even start on the jams and juices. Grossly overpriced doesn’t even begin to cover it. It’s almost as if they’re operating under the assumption that we, the customers, are utterly clueless. Well, joke’s on you, because not only did we leave empty-handed, we’re never coming back.
So, Sutton’s, next time the big retailers get accused of squeezing farmers dry, I’ll be sure to remember this little adventure in daylight robbery. Sympathize with the farmers? Not when they’re the ones doing the squeezing!

The juice is absolutely delicious and worth the price, but wish they also had some less commercial varieties. The apple pie was easy, fresh and tasty but it's $8.50 a slice and the family pie is $65. The economy is tough and things are expensive, but this is prohibitive to me, which is a shame as I really wanted to support the local economy which is why we holidayed close to home and chose these places over the supermarkets.

We are camping at Girraween NP and came out to explore the surrounding area. Stopped by the Juice Factory as apparently they do pretty good apple pies. A slice of pie with some spiced ice cream and cream was $15. It was a rustic pie, I would think of it as the kind of pie your grandma would make. Look, it was alright but didn't blow us away. Apparently the whole pie costs $65.. Had a quick look to see if there was a price there but couldn't see it, so it is not obvious.
The juice was nice, but to be honest it kind of seemed like the juice you can buy in the shops or supermarket in the city. And who knows, maybe that juice is also Suttons juice.

We visited with friends, they had a slice of pie ($15 per serve) a bit expensive although they said the pie was nice. We purchased some cider, no tasting offered…so we hope it is nice…purchased some condiments…….so not bad.. but on our visit we can only say average

I was a little underwhelmed for a $14 slice of apple pie, I had high expectations. To be fair it was a very nice pie, but seemed over priced when you have a large family. The apple juice drinks were also very nice, but again gets quite expensive for a family experience. It was above average, but the rating system only allows "average" or "very good" and it wasn't very good.

Yes it was delicious but there is no way the price of $65 can be justified. When we questioned we were told 'well there is 3kgs of apples in it". Taking into account the price of apples per kilo this is no real justification. Unfortunately the price was not mentioned and as we bought quite a few things , bulk juice etc we didn't realize how much it was until it was too late. I think this could be managed better by telling the price of the pie at point of inquiry. Yes, we were informed that it is on the price board, but there were four of us there and none of us noticed the price.

Very sorry hear that you felt our famous handmade apple pies using local Stanthorpe apples were too expensive for you.
A good way to avoid feeling this is to check the displayed price before purchasing, or ask one of our friendly staff what the cost of the apple pies are before purchasing, if you forget to check the displayed price. If it's out of your budget, you can pass on purchsing the apple pie.
There are lots of options in the Granite Belt so hopefully next time you visit, you will be able to find somewhere more suited to your budget.

We stopped by the Sutton's Juice Factory, Cidery and Shed Cafe as part of a weekend trip around Warwick and the Granite Belt. Their Apple Pie with Cider Ice Cream was absolutely delicious... we very much look forward to more of that on a future visit!
The Granny Smith Apple Juice was amazing, so we simply had to purchase a second bottle to take home with us! Service was very friendly and efficient.
As we were visiting with our little dog, there was a handy "dog parking" area out the front but with only one table that was already occupied. Would be a nice idea if there were at least a two or perhaps three tables in the dog parking area. Not wanting to miss out on the apple pie and ice cream, we fortunately managed to stay as we had our own fold-out chairs with us.
We certainly look forward to visiting again!
