I stayed in Ulush Yurts camp for weekend. The location is wonderful, yurts are comfortable. The staff was very friendly. The national food (plov, boortsog, kumis) was fantastic.We rid horses, were playing on a swing and enjoyed the silence and fantastic views.

I have been there three times totally and I want to go there again. Because this lake is truly attractive. When you reach Tüz-Ashuu pass and see Son-Kul, you say wow... It is so beautiful!
What can you do there?
1. You will experience the real nomadic life in yurt camps;
2. You can do horse riding;
3. You can taste local foods and drink Kymyz;
4. You can even swim if the weather is warm in July, August;
5. Fish from the lake is so so delicious;
6. Often there are local events like Kök-Börü game an so on...
7. And you can do just trekking. Very nice place to do walking;
From Bishkek you can go to Kyzart Village by bus or taxi at the Western Bus Station regularly. It is 5 hours drive and 260 km away. Taxi costs 500 som, minibus costs 300 som.
In Kyzart, there is a Guest House called Bamy's Home who organizes tours to Son-Kul by horse or car for a reasonable price. It was a very good tour. Kyzart is only 1,5 hour drive from Son-Kul. By horse it takes 3-4 hours depending up to your riding skills. In Son-Kul you will stay at yurt camps.
Bamy's Home is on Zhunushov Ydyrys street. You can call and ask any questions in English at +996703002180

Yes it's remote and challenging to access, there is no running water, you live with long drops and need every later of clothing you own to keep warm overnight at altitude, but the rewards are rich. Views that the word 'stunning' was invented for but still doesn't do justice. Interaction with semi-nomadics who are delighted to show their way of life, including the horse games to highlight remarkable horsemanship skills gained from the age of three. The experience of eating and staying in yurts as they do, beautiful structures with bursts of colour that welcome the chilly mountain air.
This place is not on a Kyrg highlight but a travel one. If you get the chance to visit, hire a horse and go play, you won't regret it.

This place is absolutely a must-see of Kirghizstan. I've never seen such a landscape. However, getting here it's quite complicated and requires a good spirit of adaptation. I've got no clue, BTW, how the tour companies contact the people that run the yurts where you sleep in the night.

The lake is surrounded by mountains and it is situated at an altitude of 3013 meters above sea level. Nomads come to this area with their families and herders to use it as a pastureland.
We enjoyed very much the virgin nature of the lake and its surroundings.
We had Dinner and overnight in nomadic yurt.

It takes quite a drive to get there, and unless you have your own transport you will have to hire a driver. The trip is gorgeous and the lake is beautiful. I would recommend coming for one of the horse games they have during the summer if possible. Most of the yurts are for tourists and not really authentic, but all in all it is a beautiful place to check out.

Got here as part of a horse trek
Living in a yurt so a game of horse riding with a dead sheep cant remember what it was called but it was both spectacular and violent

Not an easy place to get too.
Best is with a guide in private car or bus. Accommodation in yurt camps, some of dubious quality. However the place is stunning. We visiting petroglyphs , ancient stone circles and were entertained with an evening of horseback sports. Sunset and sunrise are awesome.

You are simply in another world. It is very cold. You feel the difference - it is something else. You spend the night with the locals in their Yurta - super experience.

This lake is serene. We went by car and stayed in yurt camp. There were very few tourists. So you will get the place all to yourself. Sunset here was spectacular. Temp at night is cold (may be 7°c). But they will warm the hut using fireplace. Really enjoyed time with shepherd's kids playing around. Different snacks were served. Soup noodle was there for dinner. Yurt stay with dinner and breakfast - 4000 soms for two (separate yurt). In return we took parrot pass to go to Naryn, the road was beautiful, stopped by to see few viewpoints and one waterfall.
