Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This fort is nicely restored and provides an excellent place to orientate yourself with the 1972 Battle of Mirbat. You can see the BATT House where the SAS guys were based and the Dhofar Gendarmerie Fort where the 25-pounder was.

I wasn't going to write a review of this place but, having read the other comments, I feel I ought to add my bit! I agree that the town and fort isn't the most salubrious destination that you will go to but for anyone with an interest in military history this has got to be worth a 5 star rating. Think of the adventure getting here followed by the oportunity to recreate the run made by Talaiasi Labalaba (a bit of a jog, and I wasnt being shot at!).
The others are right in what they say but I was a lot more struck by the visit.

Our original plan was to visit Mirbat Castle, but on arrival, the unfriendly custodian told us that we were not allowed to take photographs. Once inside, we understood why. The castle appears to be in the process of being restored, and there is nothing to see. The rooms are blocked off, with plastic sheeting shrouding any items that may be of interest.
We spent less than 10 minutes inside.
Outside, there is a lovely beach.
To the side of the castle are the ruins of many old merchant houses. We don't know why they have been allowed to disintegrate in the way that they have. This could be a wonderful tourist attraction, but unfortunately, is just a bizarre ghost town.

Mirbat castle is located on the coast not far from the centre of the small town of Mirbat. The place was the epicenter of the conflict in early 1970s in Oman civil war. There is a building close by which is another remnant of that period.

The castle has been renovated and is open for visits, though at the time I visited, it was closed due to Covid restrictions. It offers a very good glimpse of what ot must have been like to be in that period of turmoil.

We loved the different shades of blue in the water and the variety of greens in the surrounding area. A beautiful place to picnic and enjoy every breadth of time spent here.
Mirbat is a must visit location in Salalah. carry your picnic basket to enjoy and bask in the awesome surrounding.

Mirabat is an ancient city and has various homes or town itself is very old with a lot of ruins still around but this place is refurbished and brought to shape how it might look like once upon a time. A nice worth place / small town to be visited if one can take time out when in Salalah

Mirbat has a number of old merchant houses, built in traditional style,
The place is not kept in as good condition as the other castles/forts we saw in the country

A great little well restored castle that is definitely worth a stop if you are going through town. With three canons across the street it faces the ocean and from the roof offers great views of the surrounding area and town. Inside find well restored rooms and furnishing that brings the local history alive.
