The area had been stripped mined and then reverted to nature. There are horse trails and mountain bike trails and hiking trails. There are ponds for kayaks and canoes. and a lovely campground. This is a small state park and easy to get around. 10 minutes will get you into town for restaurants and shopping. In town free parking, haha.

We camped in the tent camping area that had the ancient out houses. That is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. I don't mind pit toilets but these were awful. I prefer the newer, larger cinder block ones. It was the last weekend in September so we had our pick of sights. All of them were mostly... More

Somehow we didn't notice that interstate 74 goes through the park less than a mile from the campgrounds. We noticed the noise when selecting a site in tent campground (noise could be heard in all 3 campgrounds) but thought it wasn't too bad. We hoped that the crickets and cicadas calling at night would drown it out. Wrong! the still... More

Went the weekend after labor day. Plenty of camping spots for tent camping. In the area we were there were only about 4 or 5 other campers. So not crowded at all. They have primitive camping as well, but its right off the dirt road for regular tent camping. The site has pit toilets, and the showers not too far... More

The sites are kept up, the place is really beautiful. There are a lot of different trails to check out. I would definitely come back to the area. We were here one night so we didn't get to see everything.

Very nice place for a couple or the whole family. The fishing looked great, tubing was very reasonable. Large area with many lakes.

Very nice RV sites, level, widely spaced, quiet. $20 per night with electric hookup. Dump station clean, with water.

This is a very nice state park. The activities on the Vermilion River made this a great trip for me. The kayaking and canoeing are fun, yet relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay. We were with a group of 17 -- ages 2 - 54 -- there was something for everyone and we also enjoyed being out in nature together... More

This is a beautiful park but due to the budget woes of Illinois it has really become run down and needs a lot of maintenance. If you like to camp it is ok but it is really nothing special.
