This state park should be the poster child for parks not receiving any money because of a budget crisis. My husband and I came here specifically to go kayaking and what we found was sad. There was a green algae covering the entire lake and the roads are in terrible shape. The only highlight was the Bald Eagle we briefly... More

We stayed for a week, used campground as center point for motorcycle day trips. -day rode to house on the rock spring green Wisconsin. Went to galena Illinois. Rode to poopies bar and restaurant in Savana Illinois. Another day to railroad Musuem. Great motorcycle riding right across boarder in Wisconsin. Really nice trailer campground. Wide sites, clean and quite. The showers are good and stinks, flush toilets are in this central building. Pit toilets are located further from center for the not wanting to walk to center building. Hosts were helpful. The park outside of the campground is suffering. Roads in to park and campground are in bad shape. Road... More

I live about 5 miles away in Lena and use this state park multiple times a week for exercise (2.1 miles around the park or more if you choose a trail) and to let my boys roam the trails, creek and lake. We come here for overnight tent camping. Pine Ridge has secluded sites for tent campers, Hickory Hills has... More

This was a very nice little state park, there is lots to do here. I nice little beach to enjoy, hiking, fishing, camping, boating (small electric motors only), two playgrounds, and lots of day usage areas. There are two campgrounds, one for tents with non-electric sites, and one for larger campers with electric sites. The "good" campsites with privacy and... More

This state park is near and dear to us as a family for decades. In the summer, the tent camping is down the road from the RV folks and offers a "non electronic" get-away experience. Only electric motors are allowed on the lake, so it is quiet. The hiking and biking are within a family's reach. We hiked the trail... More

We camped here in August of 2015 in a 38' motorhome. A little tight coming up the hill to the campground in a large unit, but once at the campground plenty of nice level spaces available. Everything appeared clean. The pavement could use some work but the State of Il. is not spending any money these days. Nice sandy beach... More

great park except our lousy state of Illinois do not do a very good job of the upkeep to roads etc.the park used to be a great place to camp but since our state is in a budget crunch there does not seem to be any money to make improvements to the facility

If you like to take pictures of deer and wildlife and birds, this is a great park for that. There's also fishing, a beach, and camping, trails for horses and people as well. It's pretty hilly so you get a good workout too.

We've been coming here all summer with our RV and love it. Just a few hours from Chicago and easy to get to on a Friday night. So much to do..hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, boating (trolling only). The campsites are nice with lots of trees! All the camp host are super nice. This is our new favorite place when we...
