This is a beautiful little village. With lots of little shops which sell traditional things. Such as clogs, honey, cheese, mead and many more things. There are also places spotted around where Van Gogh took his inspiration to paint some landscapes. I cannot recommend walking...More

This place is in our opinion overrated, it's a series of kitsch shops, not a lot to visit, expensive drinks. Maybe children would have enjoyed it more or maybe good for a lunch break.

We went in August 2017 with friends who live nearby. It was a very interesting and pleasant afternoon although there are a lot of craft shops and not that many 'museum-type' buildings. It was 'Horse Day' when we were there and there was, as to...More

A must see in Holland, located in the Eastern part. Beautiful historic Dutch village, many authentic Dutch farm houses, handcraft shops, beautiful surroundings. You can walk through the village, visit many authentic shops (bakery, milk&cheese, handcraft items, tipical Dutch food, honey etc). The village is...More

It was nice to visit this "open air museum" village. We enjoyed our visited and would recommend the place. In low season the shops open at 11, so do not come too early.

This place is called "Museumdorp Orvelte in Drenthe". It means it a museum village. For me, that's a bit over te top. For me a museum is more that just shops, even if they are in old buildings. Not at all what I had expected....More

We Spent the better part of a day in the village of Orvelte enjoying the shops. The highlight for our 11 and 12 year olds was the wooden shoemaker and blacksmith. We also enjoyed the traditional treats there.

The village Orvelte is a pleasant tourist trap in old Drenthe province style. It has several restaurants, old workshops and a genuine sheeps flog with a real shepherd. Currently May 2016 there is also a large Artisan "Brocante" market with live music for which however...More

A stunning example of a dutch village in times gone by...but people still live and work here. Beautifully kept thatch roofed houses and barns. So well kept, even homes with worked reed walls..cobble stoned streets. People kind and helpful everywhere. We visited on Easter Sunday...More
