There were more Grant and Civil War items but not as impressive as Grant's Home and the Galena Museum. If you only have time for two sites, skip this one.

The building and site is very interesting. The collection and display is quite eclectic. Not a lot of story telling in the displays but unique objects.

Make this your first stop in Galena. The ladies working there went above and beyond and were awesome, providing maps, and volunteering to make phone calls to see if a certain restaurant or activity was open. They asked questions about our interests and provided excellent information in order for us to take in all we wanted to see and do.... More

A fairly simple, static display historic site. Lots of artifacts and pictures. The best exhibit is Grants old buggy, pretty cool. Nothing else too memorable, but its free and worth a stop as it is close to main street.

We especially enjoyed an exhibit of prints of Currier & Ives paintings depicting Civil War battles. With each print there was a brief description of the battle and the general leading it. We bought the set of postcard size for our grandson who is interested in the Civil War. This was the highlight of my visit to Galena.

Very helpful people! A great collection of information on the life of US Grant. They gave us great input as to where to visit and great directions to local wineries. They have brochures on where to stay, where to eat and what to see. Don't hessitate to ask the folks in the center for advice.

Ladies working here were extremely helpful. Great history about US Grant. Make the stop here first to get info on places to visit and eat. Also super clean rest rooms.

We did not know about this site, until we took the trolley ride and rode past it, as it is not on the main street of town. But we are so happy we visited it....so much history and wonderful artifacts dealing with President Grant...and things that he and Mrs. Grand actually owned.
