I mean “neat” in both senses of the word. This is probably the most organized used bookstore I’ve ever been to, which made it all the more enjoyable to browse. And even if you can’t find a section by yourself, the staff are friendly and...More
The most quality curation in the Midwest (and perhaps the country), especially in art and philosophy. The literature selection contains more erudite, psychoanalytical, out-of-print, and translated literature that is very hard to come by. I absolutely revel in the entire section devoted to NYRB Classics....More
Took a little while to find. It is truly a hole in the wall. But once we got there we didn't want to leave. They have a great inventory of books, including early editions. If you have enough time on your trip to venture out...More
An excellent source of academic, literary, cultural, and art history publications. I am particularly happy with their art history, archeology, and Asian, general European, Russian, Latin American, and ancient history sections. Most of the books are used, so you can find many long-sought rare treasures...More
Powell’s was a pleasant diversion after touring FLW Robie House a few blocks away. Excellent selection on limited number of categories, enjoyed local history section the most, cooking least. The surly, condescending book store clerk is alive and well at Powell’s. Be sure to pay...More
We went to Chicago to visit a friend and he took us here knowing how much we all love books. This place was awesome! Great prices, great selection, great atmosphere, and the books were all in great shape! It's inspired us to try to stop...More
This was the last of 10 bookstores we visited and it was the friendliest!! Two ladies welcomed us and we celebrated our journey's end with some great and very reasonably priced books. A true Indy store deserving of your patronage.
what can one say about a used bookstore a stone's throw from the U of C campus? for atrters the owners are accessible roaming the store; and their curated selection is an amazing drawing card. from fiction to any non-fiction topic one wishes to explore...More
I ordered from this Store through Amazon and was delighted with their service. I was kept up to date with shipping details and surprised how quickly I received my book in Scotland. It also arrived in excellent condition. Thank you
If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful
gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
