If you're interested in books, this is the place to be during the Book Fair. Dozens of knowledgeable booksellers (yes, there are still some to be found) who have great books and caring staff. Printer's Row is the old area of Chicago where printers once had their buildings. Now it's been a bit gentrified but it is the place for... More

On vacation with my husband and was hoping to buy a few bottles of wine for our hotel room, which was just down the street. The vibe in this place was incredibly uncomfortable. The older man behind the counter was straight out rude and it was not charming. Clearly, they are not interested in being welcoming to tourists. Would not... More

I love this little oasis just south of downtown. The cool old industrial buildings full of character have been converted to lofts. The neighborhood has a very intimate feel due to its small clearly defined area. It has a cute little park with a fountain that hosts a farmer's market on Saturdays, during the warmer months. The old historic Dearborn... More

Arguably the first official artist loft living area sanctioned by the city. Cut off from the Loop in the 60's by the main western highway expansion, it was saved from demolition by a handful of visionary preservationist architects before it was a popular idea. They actually purchased quite a few of the buildings and rehabbed them. Significant architecture, part of... More

This is a nice area south of the loop (downtown area). There isn't that much to do except walking around and take pictures. It looks like a slightly industrial area that is actually changing fast now. There are a few restaurants and blues bars in the vicinity.

One bookshop, admittedly a good one, and a few attractive, gentrified industrial buildings along a very quiet street. Not worth making an effort to get here unless there’s a special event happening.

This area is a bit run-down. Somehow it reminds people of what the old times were like when the printing business was thriving. Chicago is not only for finance or tourism, there were and still are lots of different trades going on. Of course, the old-fashioned printing is already replaced by electronic or updated techniques, however, the remaining structures here... More

Spent 10 days in a 9th floor loft in this district. It was clean, ok and safe area. Nothing spectacular but a handy location. Some interesting restaurants, blues and jazz club. But like most of the down town areas it was oh so noisy for us country folk. We're not really city lovers or folk but, overall and much to... More

This historic neighborhood is located right in the heart of Chicago and is very pretty, with many places to visit and restaurants to eat in. Highly recommend for nice, fun people.
